Yesterday during a tour i lost one of my rear idler wheels due to the bearings failing... I am going to replace all three wheels at once as they have never been done (have 7000+ KM). Is it as simple as loosening the axle bolt, loosen the tension adjusters and then pulling out the axle? do i have to completly remove the tension adjusters or just losen them?

Thx

Youre right...loosen the axle bolt, the tensioners all the way and gently pull it out, worst case scenario if its hard to get out use a rubber mallet but be careful not to damage the threads on the axle shaft. Be careful when taking the axle out too by making sure the bushings and washers go exactly where they were before or you will have problems. If you need a pic search yamaha parts and it breaks down the whole assembly of the axle with bushings.

tensioners come out as the axle goes through them when the axle is removed just be sure the axle goes through them again on reinstallation

got it off but need a few more parts than expected. The bolt that is on the right side if you are facing the rear end was pretty much seized in there so when i finally got it off the threads were hosed. So looks like i need 3 new idler wheels, one sleave, one rear axle shaft and a washer..:) Oh well, 7500km, it was time to replace em anyways.

right bolt

I just changed my rear right wheel and from what i can tell that right bolt is pinned on the shaft. If u look closely there is a little pin bolt holding that bolt in. Dealership told me they come that way so in order to change the right rear wheel u have to pull the shaft out. Maybe this will save more people from trying to remove it.

I just changed my rear right wheel in the parking lot of the cedar lodge in Parishville NY last weekend when I threw a wheel 50 miles into a 400 mile ride.. Got it changed in less than 15 minutes and was ready to go.. Not too bad to do.
