Has anyone tried to put an Apex on a serious diet ?
Im sure there has to be ways to lose a serious amount of weight without losing needed hardware in these sleds . I have been wondering this one for a while . Getting down to 500 would be an incredible feat but i bet the sled would be a whole different animal .

There's lots of info on this in the Apex Mt section. The mountain guys gave been thinking up ingenius ways to lighten their Apex's up since the first Apex in 06.

Lightweight battery(cheapest weight saver),aftermarket exhaust,BOSS seat(big weight saver),lightweight a-arms,FOX floats,it goes on and on.My bros 06 Nytro got 36lbs of stock weight and you can feel the difference(More fun to ride). Its just a matter of how much money you want to spend.

Put a turbo or charger then spend another ton of money and work and ride your 35000-40000 $ sled ;)! and have fun...lol...bought 15000$ 2006...supercharger and track 16000 $..and if I wanted to lose weight....front end and skis and then the tunnel and the suspention and battery and etc...go 2-smoke if the weight is bothering you...its not the sled..its the rider..unless you drive a yamaton ..then its the weight...lol..now I have both... :moon:

Nice! But that's very extreme and it's for the Nytro, not the Apex.

What I've heard is lots of guys try to lighten up the front end, moving weight back even, so the Apex isn't so front heavy and prone to nose diving. Off trail if your not constantly on the gas they tend to wantto dive the front down. These are what I've heard:

Best Apex lightening mods:

1. Light weight front end. New A Arms like Timbersled, new skis, new shocks like floats. These moves alone drop a fair amount. Some drop part of the chasis too. Some get rid of the plastics and go with a mesh or carbon fibre hood.

2. Get rid of stock seat. It's heavy and it sux anyways. Boss, Mt Mod, anything.

3. Exhaust. There's pounds to be dropped with a single pipe.

4. New skid. Timbersled bark buster works for mountains. I'm not too sure the flatlander aftermarket skids like ZX2 drop many pounds tho.

5. Battery relocate. It's worth it if you ride off trail they say. Move the battery back to over the tunnel. Heck, even put a lightweight gel battery back there. It centralizes weight/ mass back and lightens things up.

6. Running boards and coolers. I've heard of guys going to a huge arctic cat cooler on the tunnel in the rear. Moves a lot of weight back. Get rid of the heavy running board coolers. Then cut the stock running boards and coolers off and route coolant back to new cat cooler. Then also install after market running boards to evacuate snow better.

7. For flatlanders that have them, removing stock tunnel protectors is a fantastic way to drop about 40 pounds of ice you will accumulate in your tunnel. Mt Apexes never had tunnel protectors. But stretched Apexes need these removed. Unless you stud ur track, then I'd leave them in.

8. Lighter track. Mt guys go with single ply tracks and port them even do they spin less mass and carry less heavy rubber and snow around in their heavy tunnels.

9. Speaking of heavy tunnels, Van Amourg (sp?) makes a great tunnel that evacuates snow better for less weight.

10. Rider going on the Adkins diet. We could prob all stand to lose 15 lbs. This is truly prob the cheapest weight loss possible, if applicable.
Hey, weight is weight and comes from everything the sled is carrying.

11. They say boost makes for a lighter feel....

"This chassis from C3 accomadates both the Nytro and Apex engines" ;)!

I am sure alot more of you out there could stand to lose more than 15 pds more like 60pds :jump:

I don't know,Idon't think it a bad thing trial riding, (mountain different story),
I think it's more stable with the weightin it.
my rtx is balanced very well. It's a little heavy on the landings but still fly's nice in the air(not a nose diver).I ride with 3 other mustard buckets(ski-doo'S)and i notice that the seem tippy in a lot of situations where i go right through it.our motors dont even know about the weight.
It comes down to the old gripe about the skid isn't right for the weight of
the sled, and my fat #*$&@ isn't helping matters either.

I have looked at every option on weight loss and realisticly you can only shave around 100 lbs and that is high $$

Ski doo touts power to weight and they shoot for a 3lbs to every HP, and i agree with them.

Stock apex at 700 lbs 150 is 4.6
my boosted at 700lbs and 240hp is 2.9

My sled 'feels' light as a feather on the gas, get it stuck or have to put it on your back its still 700lbs

Bottom line boosted gets you the fun factor of a lightweight ski doo but they still are heavy to move around manually but on the trail they feel as light or lighter then a ski doo XP, just my opinion

You could cut out anything that looks like it makes the sled strong, durable and dependable. But By then end you'd have a SkiDoo .

Sorry, I couldn't resist
