Hey All,

Put Bergstrom's ski savers on Mrs. RR's viper and I tried to install the shims that they sent also. Mind you, I think these shims are at least 3/8" thick if not 1/2". I followed the directions trimming off the nubs at the back and put the shims in there, put the bumper back in place and I can't even get close to getting the bolt started into the spindle. Tried it up in the air first, all different angles, then set the weight of the sled back down on the ski on the floor, still can't start it.

Bergstrom's instructions say to start the bolt as far as possible then use c-clamps, come along, etc. to line the holes up but I'm looking for more tips as to how to do this. My thought is to try warming up the bumpers to soften the rubber, take the runners off and then try 2x4 boards under the ski and over the top of the spindle and try to draw things together with ratchet straps or c-clamps. Any other tips or suggestions? (and don't just say install Curve or other skis lol, we've got Pilots and SLT's waiting in the wings if we need to put them on, trying the stockers first for a while)

Thanks,
RR

It's pretty tight in there. I used 1/4" shims and they were difficult to get in but they work fine.

These shims going on the back or the front of the saddle?? Does it help the darting that much??

I used Bergstrom shims with the stock rubber after removing the required nubs on SLT ski's. The trick is using the right method to get the bolt back in. C-clamps have never worked for me in the past. I use a 2x4 or similar under one edge of the ski with some pressure to start one side of the bolt and basically sat on the spindle to get enough "squish" to get the bolt lined up to go through the other side. It's just getting the pressure and leverage in the right spot. Done this in the past putting on Curve skis. I found that this only takes a few minutes as opposed to spending half a morning wrestling with a ski. Been there done that. The shims work great on this chassis.

Grind the bolt to a blunt point with a nut on. Remove nut. Get bolt in part way. Use a punch or big Phillips screwdriver to line up other side stick driver in all the way til it just touches bolt. Now pound the bolt and driver all the way through. Do this with sled on ground and if needed with two by under edge like said. Pilots with stock viper rubber was a bugger also.
