I am in the process of setting up the suspension of my 08 apex gt. I have 2 questions.
1) when adjuusting the rebound damping I only get 6-7 clicks before the dial just starts spinning smoothly. Is this normal (the sled is on the ground).
2) I cant tell if the electronic compression damping is working. with the sled off (but ignition on) when I adjust the setting from hard to soft I cant hear and movement near the shock. Is this normal.

Rebound should have at least 20 clicks. Shock needs serviced. If run too long internal damage occurs and body will be junk.

Compression adjuster, if it doesn't show the the shock icon on the dash that means the solenoid wiring is bad.
With rebound if it just spins and doesn't click you have screwed it out too far. The correct way to adjust it is to screw it in all the way. Maximum setting is 10 clicks back from all the way in. If memory serves, there are a total of 25 clicks of rebound. So minimum setting would be 35 clicks back from all the way in. I will double check that later this eve.

Thanks! I was unable to find any info on that. I had my ear down by the shock while my wife pressed the adjustment button. I do Valentines right!Nope. It's silent.

Bounce the sled up and down a couple times. Turn it clockwise till it bottoms then back it out. You should get 30 clicks. If not like the others have said time for a rebuild and revalve. I love the adjustability of this Shock but it needs rebuilding too often. I will be replacing mine in the off season with a Kayaba Shock.

What is the Kayaba part number for the shock? I wouldn't mind trying it out.I will be replacing mine in the off season with a Kayaba Shock.

I don't know the part # but it's other Shock that yamaha uses in the mono suspension. It has a dial on the tunnel to adjust.

I always had better luck with my spare kayaba shock than I ever had with my Ohlins, even after multiple rebuilds/revalves.

Interesting. I brought my ohlins into a Sudbury shop (pro tech powersports). They are going to take a look at it tomorrow and give it a charge (if needed). They recommended Shocktec if it needs rebuilding. If you get a chance could you grab the part number from your KYB. I found this number (8FT-47480-00) on the yamaha website. Not sure if its the one. Frank at Shocktec is a great guy and does solid revalves. Don't let anyone recharge your Ohlins without putting a seal kit in it first. The shock won't last if you don't. There's no part number on my spare kyb. I believe it came from a Vector origianally. I had the stock spring from an Attak I acquired mated to it with custom valving. It worked very well in all but the biggest whoops. If I hadn't upgraded to my XTX I would have tried a Barn Of Parts multi rate spring this season to cure the bottoming in the really big stuff.

I agree with stubby. I have dealt with shocktec for rebuild and revalves great guy knows hes stuff. You will be lucky to get a season out of your ohlins before loosing your rebound adjustment which means the shock has leaked.

Just got the shock recharged (30$). Still no clicks on the rebound adjustment, but it does feel like its pushing back on that spring a little more. I will send it out to shocktec at the end of the season. Thanks to everyone for the advice!
