How well does the shorty Nytro go off trail?

I really don't know if I agree with this. I have a 1.75" on mine and I don't feel it pushes any more than it did when it was a shorty. Maybe slightly, but hardly noticable. I was surprised actually.
 

IMO, a 1.75 is too much paddle for hard conditions. I used to have one on an '01 MXZ 800 and really noticed how quickly the hyfax got hot as compared to the 1.5". I guess it all depends on your trail conditions & riding style. For me a 1.5 works very well and is the most versatile for my area. If I wasn't racing my Nytro, I'd install a paddle track in that size.
 
The off trail I did with my RTX was O.K. I have mtn ski bottoms, A-arm protectors and Yamaha skid plate blocking off that hole between the A-arms. I didn't have a problem with submarining. However chainsawing was noticeable from time to time. Off trail I would rate it pretty good. Rolling it over and carving is O.K. also. I think the tappered back tunnel on the 09 XTX and even the SE will be better than regular Nytro's. I don't now this for sure but it would only make sense to me. I thought a couple of times this year like the sled might be hanging up on the running boards.

Reason it will push more is the tipped up rails will loose there effective ness with the 1.75" lug. You did not notice push as you did not extend the length of the track only the lug height.

I have a 121" converted to 144".
 
I'm not set in stone on my idea for a 1 3/4....
I'm not sure what track I even want to put on it, but watching my buddies 'Gade climb stuff I could only watch is starting to frustrate me!
I just want to have the confidence to climb the huge drifts, and be able to get out of some of the deeper ditches. I'm usually not looking for the easy way out, rathether looking for the places to go that I think I can't be followed!

Also remember your buddies renagade has a 16 inch wide track and another 7.5 inches on the ground. It should be better than a 15" 121" track in the deep stuff.
 
I never had a problem riding my RTX through powder. Installed the Slydog Race Skis and the Intense track and it works amazing ! Had it in 3-5 feet of fluff back in December, and the only time I got stuck was when I stopped on a slight incline or if I messed up playin around. Man, do I ever wish I was riding in that amount of snow right now !!! :jump:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Nytro won't go through powder, I'm just saying it won't go as well as an equally prepared Polaris, Ski-doo or Arctic Cat 121. Earlier in the season I rode in conditions similar to Nytromanic and I had to be more careful and pay more attention to what I was doing on my Nytro then what I'd have to on a 121 sled with a tapered tunnel.

Here are some pics of a couple rides I've gone on this season. The snow was set up and I only noticed the tunnel dragging on the climbs. I still made it, but had to work harder and knew I didn't have the same envelope of deep snow performance as a sled with a tapered tunnel. You can just feel the rear of the tunnel drag and it slows you down and you basically get high centered unless you turn out of a climb or find harder, more packed snow (i.e. another guy's track).

The Nytro makes a big ditch but it is better than the vector in the fluff. My cusins IQ is alot better in the floating in top of the snow department... Although the runningboards could be doing alot of this by slowing the sled down while draging in the snow all the time..?? I might be going something about them for next year.. Maybe narrowing them and putting betterboards on there? Not sure yet..

Bottom line is that every 121 sled is going to trench in lots of powder no matter what brand or track or skidplate or skis, it's inevitable due to it's short track length and how it's weight is distributed. There's a lot more to it than what most people think. How you ride determines a lot too; foot placement, throttle control, riding ability, all these factors come into play no matter which sled we're talking about. If you're not a very aggressive rider with a real good amount of skill and strength for riding in deep powder, you may find yourself being in the not so happy category, but again, that goes for every short track snowmobile.

Well my current 121" REV 800 with 1.25" Ripsaw on it and Project X skis goes through the fluffy powder awesome, I'm usually the guy that rides around in the off trail stuff and helps the other guys in my group get unstuck. I really have to do something pretty stupid to get myself stuck. With different skis on the Nytro RTX SE will it be even close to as good off trail as my current REV is?

The RTX SE is the only one with the new tunnel design. The rest keep the same as last year. At least it looks that way on the Yam Web Site.
