HP Limitations Of the RX-1 Motor

What people don't understand about the RX-1 is the motor itself is the limiting factor on total power not the design of the turbo system. The RX-1 Motor is capable of about 650HP before the crank will go. 650hp can be created by just boost or a combination of boost and NOS. It is true a blown through inter-cooled sled will make more power then a Draw through nonintercooled sled will. The way you get around this is increasing the size of the Turbo charger itself. The same can be said about a super charger. Because it takes power to make power the only way you can make equal power to a turbo with an SC is to increase the size of the SC.

In recent Dyno testing LP has proved this fact. The Trail LP kit was able to make about 300 hp and that was it. Buy simply increasing the size of the turbo and adjusting the size of the Carb LP was able to make about 60 HP more at an equal boost level. By going to a bigger carb and turbo LP is also able to run higher boost levels then the trail kit can which also increase the power levels.

His point is that the air induction system is the limiting factor for making HP.

THE ONLY LIMITING FACTOR TO MAKING HP IS THE SIZE OF OUR WALLET ;)!

There is a r1 bike motor naturally asperated making 750 hp. The only limitations are your wallet.
Impossible! Even a formula 1 car in not that powerful (hp-liters)
I herd of a TURBOCHARGED Hayabusa making 701 hp.

MAX HP

I HAVE SEEN DYNOS OF 3 LITER TOYOTA SUPRAS REACHING 1800 HORSEPOWER WITH HUGE TURBOS STARPPED ON. ONLY TIME WILL TELL AS TO WEATHER THE RX1 1OOOCC ENGINE WILL HOLD UP TO BOOST LEVELS OF 30, 40 OR 50 PSI. WITH THE PROPER INTERNAL UPGRADES THE 3000 CC TOYOTA CAN DO IT. THE TOYOTA IS CONSIDERED TO BE ONE OF THE THE BEST ENGINES TO BOOST, IF NOT THE OUTRIGHT BEST ENGINE FOR BOOST. I HOPE THE RX1 ENGINE CAN JOIN THE J2Z TOYOTA AT 600HP PER LITER.

THERE ARE TURBOS THAT ARE CAPIBLE OF PRODUCING 2000 HP ON ENGINES AT OVER 45 PSI.

MY GUESS IS THAT SOMEONE IS ALREADY SEEING CLOSE TO 500 HP OUT OF THE RX1 ENGINE. JEFF SIMON IS RUNNING SOME VERY LOW ETS AND HAS ADDED SOME NITROUS TO THE SLED. I SUSPECT THE NO2 IS USED AT THE HOLE SHOT TO HELP SPOOL A TURBO TO BUILD THE MAX BOOST THAT IT IS CAPIBLE OF IN A 1/4 RUN. HIS COMPRESSOR MAY BE TOO LARGE FOR THE ENGINE TO PUSH WITHOUT HELP OF NO2. I WOULD NOT AT ALL BE SUPRISED IF THE TURBO HE HAS INSTALLED IS A LARGER UNIT THAN THE GARRETT 28 MOST GUYS ARE USING.

AT 21LBS BOOST THE RX1 SHOULD BE PRODUCING AROUND 400 HP IF TUNED JUST RIGHT TO THE EDGE. THE STOCK RX1 ENGINE CAN PUSH A COMPRESSOR WITH A 350 HP RATING EFFECTIVLY. THE RX1'S 1000CC ENGINE MAY NOT BE CAPIBLE OF PUSHING MUCH OF A LARGER TURBO EFFECTIVLY. AT A POINT A BIGGER TURBO IS NOT ALWAYS A BETTER TURBO.

WITH A BIGGER TURBO AT 30 PSI 500 HP SOUNDS REALISTIC. BUT THE STOCK ENGINE IS GOING TO NEED SOME TYPE OF HELP TO PUSH THE COMPRESSOR. STOCK PISTONS RODS AND MABEY EVEN THE CRANK WILL BE IN GREAT DANGER.

AT 40PSI 600 HP? SURE IT WILL TAKE A VERY LARGE TURBO AND THE ENGINE WILL NEED SOME OTHER TYPE OF HELP ( ALOT OF NO2) OR IT MAY NEVER PUSH THE TURBO. STOCK PISTONS RODS AND THE CRANK WILL NOT TAKE THIS LEVEL OF BOOST UNLESS THIS IS THE BEST ENGINE EVER PUT IN A COMSUMER VECHILE.

THIS COMBINATION WILL MOST LIKELY ONLY BE GOOD FOR VERY LONG RUNS TO REACH TOP HP AND VERY HIGH SPEEDS. THESE TYPE OF RUNS ARE EASY TO RUN ON A DYNO. MY GUESS IS THAT 500 TO 600 HP WILL BE SEEN ON A DYNO BY THE END OF THE SEASON.

SEEING THE SAME 600 HP PUT DOWN ON ANYTHING FROZEN WILL BE VERY HARD TO DO AND EVEN HARDER TO SURVIVE IF (RATHER WHEN) IT HAPPENS. MABEY NEXT SUMMER ON THE TRACK.

Laneo, like i said last year, wy not twin turbo it!? alredy front and rear
mounts, all there is to do is the plumbing! a small 2nd. stage for
less lag, and a bigger primary for high flow. Intercooling in between
stages with alcool etc. This is VERY achevable..........
One day i will try it! (with someone else's money) :drink:

It's much harder then you think. As far as just running 2 turbos in parallel the spool time would be the same as just having one bigger turbo. But if we took some of the technology that some of desiels are using and applied to to our application(blowing one turbo into another one) then VERY high boost levels could be obtained(over 50psi).
