Has anyone tried a hydrophobic coating like Rust oleum Never Wet for stoping ice from forming in the tunnel and on other suspension parts? I watched a YouTube video on it and found it to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I picked up a kit from Home Depot today for $20.00. On the box it said works on aluminum and it works for ice too.

Could this be a simple fix for all us VL owners?

I look forward to seeing a review this winter on these new products on the market...particulary how well it performs and whether if the product can last, even if it's just for a season.

I will be trying out two products. One is the Rustoleum Never Wet and the other is DuPont™ Teflon® Snow & Ice Repellent.

The Never Wet looks like a more "permanent" solution while the DuPont stuff looks like a lubricant that must be re-applied. Will see how it goes.

I wish. No snow here yet to test :letsnow: . We just applied Never Wet to my son's '07 Phazer tunnel. Will probably use the Dupont in my other son's '09 Phazer and the Never Wet on my MP since icing is a real problem on VL's/MP's.

Okay, I ordered one already and I'll apply it on the weekend. Tons of snow here in AB right now.

So I heard. Lucky you!

Minor update. The Teflon spray does not dry, meaning that it will need to be re-applied once in a while. So far, I can say it works well on shovels. Haven't tried it on a sled yet.

The Never Wet seems to work as advertised on the Phazer with the little snow we got and just ripping around the house and the pit. The real test will be on my MP once I get it in the garage to take out the skid and apply the coating to it.

Did not apply the Never Wet yet because of temperature, my garage is not heated.

I also put some on the the skid on the rear springs, upper idlers and rear idlers. You can see it, sort bluish haze. While installing the skid, the coating easily scraped off the wheels. Maybe it's just the plastic though. I'll see how it lasts in the tunnel.

First ride with the MP and it's a fail for the Never Wet. Snow stuck to the top of the tunnel but this may be due to the removal of a plastic panel when I installed my exhaust extension:

Conditions were -6C with lots of loose snow. It wasn't ice but packed snow in the tunnel. I may put the panel back with a cutout to accommodate the exhaust.

Yeah, I'm not surprised with the spray or whatever not working but you never know til you try. The only real improvement I got is when I put the shield in there - w/o it was worse if anything even with the extension.

Except this is different than the ice boogers I'm used to seeing. It's just wet snow packed in the top of the tunnel. Either way, it didn't work.

The other teflon spray I haven't tried in a sled yet. Seems to work with the snowblower and shovels. It would have to be applied when the surface is ice and snow free.
