Just installed my newly re-valved Hygear shocks with the triple rated twisted springs. I notice the smallest spring on top serves no purpose as there is a 3/4 retainer or shim inside it which stops it from collapsing. Was i suppose to remove this before i installed them ? and i noticed the same with my rear dual rate. Hope i don't have to remove the skid again lol. Any info greatly appreciated

Its called a crossover.Bigger crossover makes next spring in line activate sooner.Smaller later.Usually next spring in line is harder rate.Crossover allows the softer rate spring the crossover resides in to only affect ride for the gap the crossover isnt in.So you get a softer ride till a stiffer rate is needed like hard cornering or bigger bumps than a soft rate spring could handle.Sometimes this gap isnt visable till all wieght is off and shock fully extended. If there is no gap even with all wieght off skiis I suspect your preload is too much and ride hieght too high.

Ok thanks that makes it much more clear. So will i ever need to remove it if i want it to be softer ? or does it mean i have to take less preload off ?

If you want it softer you would use a smaller crossover or back off the preload but at some point ride hieght will be affected.Did you get the spring kit and not the shocks? If so could the crossover be installed wrong?Often they are part of the retainer between two springs and one side is longer than other.Pic would be nice.

They can from hygear installed on my shocks. It's a separate piece from the retainer it's just a 1/2 aluminum ring. I can remove it if i take the springs off. Maybe i will just loosen the preload and ride to see how it works. But as it sits now the small spring looks as if it will do absolutely nothing
