I can't believe I'm saying this

So I sold my 800 Etec last week while the going was good. Looking for something interesting.. Even looking at some 2012 Cat Turbos.. I'm not seeing any Nytro Turbos for sale anywheres. I found a 1200 doo Turbo.. Money wise.. Its cheaper to get the new cat and re-flash it. The seating position seems tall on the cats too! Hmmm

Can you tell us how the 1200 compares to the Nytro? I'd love a 1200 Renegade but I am finding leftover Nytro XTX's for way less. Enough to justify the Nytro even if I have to add skis.

I actually find the Cat to be bang on..almost identical to my Nytro in seasting position...at least it felt that way to me!

The seat is a little lower and it does not seem to have the same throttle response out of the hole as the Nytro.. but it might be hook up issue.

The Nytro feels like a racer through the tight stuff. The Nytro has alot more of a fun factor to it.. For a taller rider like me at 6'2 I felt more at home on the Nytro.

I would have to give the top end to the 1200 doo. The doo 1200 is a great all around cruiser.. Turbo them and its a whole different sled.. I'm sure the Nytro is too.

The 1200 are having trouble with electrical issues, leaky valve covers, leaky oil coolers.. but the frames are solid..

Nytro have the usual ball joint and front subframe issues.. so its a toss up.

nytro=racer

1200 doo=trail cruiser.

if i was you , i'd stay the hell away from that cat turbo , they have been nothing but troubles , and if you do , have a thick wallet as you'll be buying belts one after the other , i know a guy who went through many belts , they not cheep , his has been in the shop for fixing more times then any sled i ever seen ,

junk , junk in my opinion , might be fast when it's working , looks nice , but me thinking you'll be looking at it most time in the dealers shop being fixed

save yourself some money , go back and get a nytro and add the turbo , you can get some great deals this time of year , even a used one and then add your mods , you'll be happy and won't ever need a doo or cat to pull you home , will be the other way around ,

You might be right on that.. Maybe its best to stay away.. I was looking at a used Cat and recently he went over a jump and the motor moved enough upon landing to cut a whole through the coolant hose.. lol

NB Nytro:

Get a Nytro. Yes our sleds have issues, but if you are comparing against the 800etec or 1200, they are not without issues either . One buddy of mine has a 2011 800 etec with 1400kms and poof....motor. 90kph on the trail and it decided to expire???? 4 weeks out of warranty (yes he brain farted for not buying the ex-warranty). BRP fortunately helped with parts, but labour is on his nickel.

Another buddy has two 2010 1200 renegades: a regular and a back country. Nice sleds but one has had a computer failure this year ...$1200, the other has an oil leak somewhere that requires the motor to be removed to fix?? And while we were touring Gaspe last week one of them blew a jackshaft bearing ( I think it had 6000km's on it). Fortunately, he switched to the second , er...backup 1200 Renegade and we continued with the trip....that's the leaking one.

My point is that the Nytro has PITA issues, but generally it runs and will get you home. Others have great sleds too, but they break down as well.

On a side note, just got off the trails at 4pm today. 15 deg. C and the snow is full-on spring rot. I am sure you have seen the forecast for this week, so boys, get your drives in asap.

OTM

My best advice is to ride them both if you can. Two totally different personalities. The one thing that makes me not like the 1200 is the throttle lag or whatever you want to call it. I have hundreds of miles on 1200's (both my parents and my cousin own them) and I still can't get used to it. Other than that I like the 1200. Obviously much better handling than the Nytro and a better rear suspension too. I prefer the seating position on the Nytro because it's very easy to stand-sit-stand-sit but the Ski-Doo seat is much more comfortable on 200+ mile days. Again it comes down to personal preference. I'll admit I have trouble keeping up with the 1200's but for me riding is about the fun factor and the 1200 kind of lacks that.

NB_NYTRO - You took the words out of my mouth.. If you are a taller rider the Nytro offers a much comfortable chassis and the fun factor belongs to the Nytro hands down. I know many have left the blue camp for Doo 1200's and I can't take anything away from them as they are very nice performing, reliable sleds but just don't offer the same excitement on the trail and throttle response as the Nytro does. Yes, stock for stock the xp/xr chassis is a much better handling sled but once you throw a set of hygear springs in front and oft riser, I find the Nytro more exciting and comfortable for bigger riders like myself at 6'-3". This past winter I have had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time on both my Nytro XTX and 1200 x. The Nytro left me smiling every time I got got in it and back to my trailer... Your best bet it to try one and put some miles on it. If you are a cruiser type you will be very happy with the xr as it offers plenty of torque and nice plush ride. If you prefer the revvy, responsive, performance stiffer ride feel the Nytro is more of your choice...

There is no lag in the 1200. The hesitation or lag is only off clutch engagement. So unless you are constantly driving under 10mph, I don't see how there is an issue...

I thought the same thing too sitting on the Cat in the show room. On the trail the Cat seating position is not as comfortable (to me) as the Nytro, and I don't like the ergos as much. I just can't get far enough forward without spreading my legs really far apart, and the angle of the running boards is too steep when standing. I've only got 270kms on the cat though, so maybe I'll adapt a little more as time goes on.

That said, they are pretty similar, and the Cat is a very very nice tool for making quick time on trails.

Interesting, never really thought things would change alot on the trail. You've almost got as much on your new ride as I did all season lol. Is the fuel mileage getting any better? I loved my F7 but hated how tough it was on gas when riding fairly hard. How is it on oil?

I never thought it would either, but I think in the show room you sit/stand on it the way the designers think you should, out riding you find the position that works best for you.

It was the impression that it was similar to the Nytro that really swung me to buy the XF. I was leaning hard towards an '11 HCR, but I felt that the XF would be more like I was used to. Still kind of going through the second-guessing game, wondering if I'd have been happier in the long run with the HCR. Oh well.

It's not bad on oil. 110-115kms burned a tad over 1/2 liter.

Yeah.. I never really noticed this so called lag.. I just stabbed the throtle to the bar and left.. lol ..
