This 'Winder is a lot like my Ex-wife.
Fun to ride, but costing me a TON-O-MONEY!
I had PERFECT conditions for my "3 belts & a gun" test. (another post)
I had 18 to 21 degree temps all day & trails that were similar for very perfect test results. A few TY members actually witnessed my testing.
I ran "regular" OCD trail speeds to get these results.
Then while just getting started to move after a stop, i heard a "pop" then a "blam"
I thought it was the first blown belt of the year. But when i opened my side panel i saw bits & pieces of aluminum parts. NOT what i was expecting, but actually relieved it wasn't a belt.
That may sound crazy to some, but i am convinced & determined to get decent belt life out of this machine.
The clutch weight was in the pan and while making it's magical flight through the bowels of my sled, it decided to take a chunk out of secondary.

BOTH clutches gone.
I backed up my old Apex we call MUFFASSA that i sold to my cousin, plopped him on the 'Winder & gave him the ride of his life.
Turns out i tow fast also, much to his dismay. But he definitely handled the bumps better.
I texted out the pic & KNAPP pointed out that the roller is missing!
The posts that hold the roller aren't damaged indicating the roller fell out. Most likely the little bolt nut came off & the bolt fell out. I've had them off numerous times & didn't Loctite them due to the locking nut. Well i believe the locking nut stopped...............locking

All is good though. BEERMAN took it to heart & was going to send me his own personal clutch until i reminded him he's going riding next week with some very "high profile" members. Then i offered to relieve him of a spare clutch he has. I'm going to send his dog some treats. Got to take care of the "Supervisor"!

If anyone else has a Sidewinder secondary they need to be "relieved" of, PM me. I'm going back up in 2 weeks for 10 days to get the high mileage part of the belt testing program rolling.
I may have to make a Viper clutch work, but that changes my whole test plan.

And some Loctite to!

P.S. The "Supervisor" is a reference to a faithful dog that hangs out in the garage while you work

I “liked” your post because it was funny, sorry to hear of your loss brother.

I may need your Viper clutch.
Thank you for the offer.
Did you notice how clean the belly pan was? That's 600 miles of NO belt dust. I guess that's the positive we have to take from this.
My 3 belts & a gun post coming tomorrow.

Awsome! The suspense is killing me!

Ouch..... I will be checking my roller bolts before this weekend. Do you and the supervisor do a lot of drinking while u are out in the garage?

That is a bummer Steve. Hopefully it is as you say, and the nut flew off. I second guessed the locking nuts a couple weeks back when I replaced my rollers and put locktite on them. Wouldn't hurt to put the bolt in so it's being pushed into the bushing with centrifugal force either. Those primary movable sheaves are cheap money. I picked up a spare a month ago when these things started blowing up. I didn't price the secondary sheaves however.

Interesting on the lock-nuts. When I was putting mine back together I noticed they felt weal putting them on and replaced with new ones. Thanks for the heads up Steve that sucks.

Sorry about your clutches. I often wondered if it would matter which way a guy puts the bolt through. As compared to the way the clutch spins. Also I could see those lock nuts getting worn out some if used and no loc tight. Really scary stuff guys with these things flying apart. Running through both my clutches as they are off the sled.

600 miles no belt dust! Awesome especially if it’s a 8jp

Wow now that’s some TY support! ^^^^^

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
First i'd like to thank BEERMAN for offering a primary clutch within an hour of it breaking. I called him for a phone hug & he calmed me down. It's not easy to calm down a hummingbird on crack.
The next thanks goes to Dale from DALTON. I called him first to see if he'd sell me 1 clutch weight which he did & then hooked me up on a new secondary.
Thirdly i'd like to thank ALL the texts, PM's & calls i've received for offerings.
This site is why i actually will stay with Yamaha.

I really feel a brother hood here & i'm actually over whelmed.

OK, time to put away the tissues & get to my next post
