Even with all of the new changes to the Apex lineup for 2011, Yamaha has taken all of the attention away with their 20%+ price increases. Never before have I logged onto this site following the new model year debut to find so much concern about the next year's sled pricing. Is Yamaha aware of our current economic state? $14,000+ for a new sled? We are a passionate, dedicated bunch, but that is crazy! I could never justify spending anywhere near that much on a new sled. I paid $8500 for my Apex RTX back in '06 (I got a good deal), and even a heavily discounted regular Apex is going to be $12,000.
Typically on this site, there are dozens of posts from guys who cant wait to buy the newest sled. I haven't combed the site, but I see only a few posts claiming that they are ready to buy a new machine.
Hope Yamaha is paying attention to this. I think ruined their own sleds debut by making them so expensive.

Since 2007 the U.S. $ has fallen by approximately 30% against the Japanese Yen at some point it was going to catch up to those south of the Border.
Up here we've been paying the real cost of these sleds for years and subsidizing those down south of us.

It's only MSRP - The market will straighten it out eventually.
But for once I am happy to say that I DON'T need a new snowmobile this year. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to have an XTX skid and EPS - eventually

Well, I guess a little too much government financing has come back to bite us in the #*$&@. Hopefully, as our economy recovers, the USD regains some of its strength. Of course, that will drive up the price of oil again, since that is traded in USD.
In the meantime, I would appreciate if you continue to subsidize our sled purchases. Please send a check for $2000.00 CND to allow me to purchase a new sled. Thanks.

Oil should actually fall if USD increases, to remain the same price in other currencies. I would have to guess that by the end of this year US$ could be materially higher than today, call it +10%, versus the C$ falling 10%.
When you add everything up, the U.S. is actually the lesser of all evils(compared to the other major economies) economically right now which means that over time the dollar should rise again.

Actually most of the Asian economies are doing best with the exception of Japan. The BRIC Nations demand for resources will be a major player in oil and other natural resource pricing.
BRIC is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China for those who don't follow economics.
King Dollar is still the world reserve currency so never count it out.

Re: I hope Yamaha is paying attention to these posts on 2011
I love the new line up and would of loved to have been spring checking a new 2011 Apex SE Blk/Chrome 128" or a 2011 Apex XTX Red 144" but NO WAY I can see myself doing it at the present time with those prices plus the 13% taxes added to it

I was very interested in upgrading my 08 Apex to a 2011, until I noticed the increase in price. My dealer said 2010 sales were poor, I responded they are too much money, now it has gotten worse.

If this was related to the strength of the dollar then the rest of the line would go up similarly. Everything else went up $300. I can find maybe $500 worth of new technolgy, basically the only new hardware added to this sled is the EPS and the controls for the exhaust valves. Skiis, new spindles, new seat, new muffler, these repalce the old. I was almost ready to buy, not so ready any more. Yes there are engineering costs, but normally those are not all recovered the 1st year. The base Apex went up $2000. My 2 cents

Sales are down for the manufactures so they put the price up so they can make the same profit at our expense!!!

don't blame the dealers for high prices - in minnesota, the state sales tax paid on a new sled is way more than the dealer makes - kind of funny - the state makes more money on a sled than the dealer does -

Is it just me or has MSRP become kind of a joke anyways? You can buy a new Apex 2010 for $2000 of MSRP on ebay.
Has anyone payed full MSRP price for a new sled??
