I want to up grade my skiis on my '08 APEX LTX, I'm looking at PILOTS our SLY DOGS trail model.

I ride groomed trails 95% of the time and not studded, I just want to get rid of the d@mn DARTING and still have EASY or LIGHT steering and good cornering, I'm a semi aggressive rider.

The thing with PILOTS is that they are very costly when it comes to replace CARBIDES...but if its a better ski I don't really care, our local SKI-DOO dealer has take-off's for a really good $$$, these are guys going from a black ski to coloured ones...their brand new.

I was checking out the SLY DOG'S and found them kind of FLIMSY, very soft and thin on the edges, I'm kind of concern with durabilty, i can run 5 to 8000kms a year or more pending snow conditions, and what about them DARTING, I did notice that they had some kind of special keel design that to me is probably prone to wear out quickly it doesn't have much protection...

I read a lot of PROS on the PILOT on APEX'S, I just want a ski that will give me best of both worlds, DART free and BITE in corners.

thanks, LET IT SNOW!!!

I wouldnt swap skis, i would go with Berstrom Skegs and shim them. Do some searches, lots of info out there

I second that! Unless you have $'s burning a hole in your pocket.

That's what I did (6" triples and shims). NO more darting, easy steering and no push in the corners. ;)!

I love my Slydogs. If you do get them, get the ski savers also. My ski savers got pretty worn last year and probably saved my skis from possible damage.

I do ride in some pretty marginal conditions though.

My friends say that if that paint the road "white", i'll snowmobile on it...and they are right

That would be a third vote. Shimmed the skis and went with the Bergstrom Triple Points with a 6" carbide. No more darting. ;)!

If you ever have a carbide issue on a trip it might be easier to get a ski doo replacement than slydog.Just a thought.Jay

Ulmers have a few sets of slydog trail skis for cheap, some are new some are low miles. It was posted on here somewhere. Maxdlx

You can make the stock skis work with shims and good carbides but they still don't float in powder and tend to be scary on hard, crusty snow.

Hard crusty snow is NOT hardpack. You get hard crusty snow when you have fresh snow followed by warm weather, and then by a freeze. In these conditions, the stock skis are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!! The stock skis are NOT NEARLY BIG ENOUGH for a sled this size, so when you're running on hard crusty snow, it will start breaking through the crust at extremely high speed, like 50+mph. If one ski breaks through the crust but not the other, it will grab and could send you rolling sideways at 50+. This can lead to serious injury OR DEATH.

If you switch to a much larger ski, Simmons for example, then the break-through speed drops down to a sensible speed, like 10 or under, where if one ski breaks through, you'll just stop.

"EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!" ???...I'm sorry but, I've never had a problem in any conditions with the stock skis on any Yamaha - including the 1,600 miles I rode last season on my Attak. I guess I must ride based on the conditions, not like a maniac...
