no..the 600 di is a suzuki motor...suzuki still supplies parts to cat now for what was prior built cat motors..its pressumed that yam will build motors for cat...who knows to what amount..
yamaha is a premiere motor builder...
yes there have been many tweaks and changes...and yes there are different part numbers for the same exact parts...its still alot of what was in 2012...I spent over 45 minutes discussing the chassis and periphials with a yam engineer...we discussed the issues in depth..you dont want me to post alot of what he said..but in the end...there were 126 changes or improvements...some as small as showing cat assembly workers how to properly use a torque wrench!
Im saying it will be all new and the way a di motor was supposed to be..expect a new motor or variant each of the next five years!
Cat is building there own motors going forward, they always did the design work anyways. Suzuki just produced them.
At least that is what the engineers at this link say. Or maybe you are right.

after dealing with the diamond drive (and talking to black diamond) cat engineers would often do what the designer of the item would tell them not to do..."re-engineer" the oringianl design...this was with the diamond drive..
I joked with some of the cat guys that I think the engineers design in "issues" to build job security...
this is obvious with the :
f1000
z1 turbo
procross
each first year sled, issue were definately there..by the third year...much improved..
I personally wouldnt let a cat engineer work on my zero turn...not sure whats the reason...the yam engineers are what Id trust..

that story was written in 2011 yet in 2014 there is now a Yamaha motor in a cat. My guess is Yamaha takes over where Suzuki left off
First, I think I'm like many, read all the various forums to keep up on trends, what might be a good future sled, curiosity etc.
Second, as a former '12 ProCross owner, its like deja vous reading the Viper forums, hearing about the sled will be sold out, it will be great because Yamaha has a hand in it, any problems will be quickly taken care of, etc. Just like us '12 ProCross owners stated a few years back.
I think the Viper will be fine and a good chapter in sledding history. But being bitten by the ProCross, I guess we former owners also want to pass on some of the bad things to watch for. It's human nature to be helpful, even when its not wanted or solicited. (lol).
Yamaha needs to hear the good things, their employees have egos just like the rest of us and like to hear the good
But any problems that go back to Cat, you really have to scream loudly to make CAT change.
I guess the things I want to pass on to watch for in case you need to shout loudly are the cheap bearings Cat uses. IF they are still using the cheap bearings, it may not show up til later in the season. The other concern that may be a problem, maybe not, is the ACT shocks. Cat used these shocks for a couple years in the early 2000's and were very, very problematic. Maybe they are okay now, I don't know. I was pretty surprised Cat (and Yammi) came back with these shocks out of the blue. They would ride great for a weekend until you hit a bad bump, and then they would ride harsh and stiff out of the blue, until rebuilt again, and good for another weekend. The other problem with Cat is their slow response to problems, and the 'hard starting' issue is a good example, no fix til summer.
TY is a great forum but complainers aren't always welcome and sometimes I see too much of a cheerleader attitude. Having a ton of Cat's since the '60's, I have learned you have to shout at Cat about any problems to get results and get things changed quickly and get next years models made better.
The Vipers do look great coming down the trail.
So many of you aren't having problems and that is a great sign and it will only get better.
So many of you are happy and that is great.
But shout loudly, make phone calls, write letters if there is a problem. You will get faster better results.
Hope that helps. mike

amen mike... us former procross owners, well we all pray for these guys...
funny thing when we were sourcing bearings for the aftermarket jackshafts...the bearing used is a company owned by skf! but made in china...so who knows...but theyre an skf company ...probably looser tolerances and lower rockwell..
what you on now?

Hi SJ,
Running an ACE 900 TNT this winter. Really bad winter for mileage, only at 1,000 so far, one vacation had two rain storms and current vacation trails started icy, now snow, days of below zero, 50 mph winds, huge drifts. Spending more miles in the hotel hot tub than on my sled. But so far all is good.

My God, gotta love the internet......

It's real simple how to get along here. keep the doo talk in head to head. I don't like having to talk about cat but it is relevant now. Doo has no relevancy in the viper forum at all. Does it mean I don't like them? No. I owned a m10 formula 600 for a few years. It was a nice sled even though it was first lesson in what happens when crank bearings don't get oil. They really didn't learn that lesson did they? I also am a big fan of the R motion. The rest is ho hum as many negatives as positives. Have a good one guys!
