I went on a very large rally yesterday almosy 1500 machines the temperature was -24 but by later on it dropped to -38 celcius when we were heading home. I was gone from 830 am until 7 pm and I had very little buildup, maybe 5 -10 pounds of ice, before i would have 40-50 lbs, the tunnel protectors were completely gone, i have a rear heat exchanger, i also sprayed the entire tunnel, shocks and underside with liquid wrench silicone from menards it was 1.79 a can on sale this week. every time I stopped i let it run a while before shutting it off, i started and warmed up sooner then kicked off some of the ice and picked up the track and dropped it a couple times, then i reversed it for maybe 10 feet. the ice just feel off and the improvement was huge. the silcone seems to really help to prevent the ice from bonding and forming such strongs chunks it would just slip or fall off.
this morning i looked underneath and i have almost no ice underneath.
i noticed many other yamahas on the trails with huge buildups some looked like more than 50 lbs some people almost had to stop riding from buildup
