ICE buildup in tunnel

After riding at fresh deep powder there was some ice build up around the silencer but tunnel looked nice!

i had the tunnel protectors removed today. I am going on a long ride this weekend about 100 miles it is suppose to be about -22 during the day so I should have a chance to see whether it will make a difference.

I am also going to try to spray pam underneath or possibly some dupont teflon ice and snow repellant if i can find it

The way that muffler is tucked up there it looks like it should be possible to put a shield over it unless that would cause too much heat build-up under the seat. I did it on my VL and it makes a big difference in ice build-up - still get some around the upper wheels but nothing like before.

i am riding in the far north i went for about 80 miles yesterday -30 temperatures i sprayed the tunnel with some liquid wrench silicone spray and the tunnel protectors are removed. vast improvement. i only had about 10 percent of the ice i normally would have had

I went on a very large rally yesterday almosy 1500 machines the temperature was -24 but by later on it dropped to -38 celcius when we were heading home. I was gone from 830 am until 7 pm and I had very little buildup, maybe 5 -10 pounds of ice, before i would have 40-50 lbs, the tunnel protectors were completely gone, i have a rear heat exchanger, i also sprayed the entire tunnel, shocks and underside with liquid wrench silicone from menards it was 1.79 a can on sale this week. every time I stopped i let it run a while before shutting it off, i started and warmed up sooner then kicked off some of the ice and picked up the track and dropped it a couple times, then i reversed it for maybe 10 feet. the ice just feel off and the improvement was huge. the silcone seems to really help to prevent the ice from bonding and forming such strongs chunks it would just slip or fall off.
this morning i looked underneath and i have almost no ice underneath.
i noticed many other yamahas on the trails with huge buildups some looked like more than 50 lbs some people almost had to stop riding from buildup

ice issue xtx

just took out 30+lbs!
my buddy has an 08 without tunnel protectors and his was not as bad but still had almost as much?
Mine was so bad I had to stop..I use ice picks..a hassle but it works well..
just like the rear light..can anyone tell me if turn outs help with the rear light?

has anyone tried riviting in sheet metal? it seems like this would be pretty easy on an apex...I'm thinking of trying it before next season.

Looks quite a bit easier than enclosing the VL muffler but you would have to be careful with heat build-up. I have enough heat on my rear carrier of the VL that I have to use a rack to keep the vinyl carrying bags from melting and I put a couple of washers as spacers between the rear seat and tunnel.

Has anyone tried an exhaust turnout pointed down at the tunnel to act as a heat gun?
