I want to install some ice scratchers this summer, what works the best, do they really help? i am wearing my slides up front, big time, i installed small wheels up there on the inside, they dont hold up. i run a ice ripper xt thinking i am not getting the lub off the studs like normal.\, any input on scrarchers would help.

a couple of friends run the ones that bolt to the running boards they work awesome on hard ice the suspension has snow in it and a small amount of snowdust around the rear

I wouldn't mind having something either. Didn't Yamaha Canada list some scratchers that were either ski mounted or somewhere ahead of the skid frame?
Sounds like the best place to lube the whole skid frame..... :exc:

Why don't the small wheels hold up? You mean the low snow wheels? I just ordered them....Hope I didn't waste my money! My sliders wore down in the same exact spot. I haven't checked yet but I'm sure they are paper thin or to the rail. I also run the Ice Ripper XT. My original Ice Ripper didn't wear in that area at all. I use the spring mounted scratchers on the floorboards. They work really well. The vector next to me had no snow in the skid and mine did. However, my scratchers hit the snow in about the middle of the track. I figured that would be enough to lube the front too. People behind me say they are spraying lots of snow!!!
I think I wore my slidders down on some miles of 90-100mph runs. I didn't have the scratchers down as there seemed like there was plenty of lube on the trail. The Vector that was with me on this trip wore his sliders through right at the bend...but did no damage to rails.

I went thru 2 small low snow wheels up on the curve, in about 1000 miles took the rubber of the wheels. i also run thoose same wheels towards the rear they last for ever back there. I think maybe running the track to loose maybe adding to the problems up front. I am running the single ply 2.82 pitch track. when the wheels were working up front the slide wear was not a problem. Wanted to get rid of the little wheels up front a get some ice scratchers.

My first set lasted two seasons, the aluminum broke off on one side, the pivot hole on the other got to large and the scratcher almost fell off. Will be rebuilding for the fall. Beauty of this style is that you can back up and not worry about wrecking the scratcher, as long as the snow is deep enough for it to swing down.

Forgot to add yesterday,,,"rumor" has it that Yamaha is suppose to come out with some better/newer designed scratchers this coming fall????
I believe, from what I heard, they are something that are similar to the above ones I posted but suppose to be better?
Anyone else hear this??
There are some great tips/ideas in this thread, especially liking the rear ski mounted bolt but will they not eventually oblong the hole in the ski and fall out or if it/they catch something could they not be ripped right out of the ski?

ski scratchers are cheap, easy and safe, on the apex they spray right on the exchangers and into susp.
