Hi:

I have a 2008 FX Nitro RTX. Last year it started shutting off when you let go of the throttle (it's not good when your going down a hill). The sled doesn't idle properly. Frequently, I have to give her some throttle to get her to start.

The riders behind me complain about the gas fumes coming from her. It's like she's flooding. It seems like she's harder on fuel as well.

I've had her out to Yamaha twice, and they can't seem to find the trouble.

Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem and, if so, how you fixed it.

Thanks

Hi:

According to diagnostics, everything is running fine. There hasn't been any codes set to indicate that there is a problem.

That's what I find strange. The dealer is puzzled as well.

Thanks

Did you check out your air box to see if there's an obstruction of some kind? The filter screen could be plugged with oil or debris. I've seen even mice nest in air boxes from the off season that cause these symptoms.

if idle is the only issue, I would guess its running fine otherwise.First of all, the gas smell is any off road 4 stroke when running hard. same as 2 stroke minus oil smoke/smell. if it were mine, would disable tors and after riding, raise mechanical idle along with playing with the co2 adjustments on the display.

No 4 stroke should have a gas smell. If it's that rich you'll lose your rings.
I'm not familiar with the nitros but if it has a TPS that is where I would look
first.

have yet to see one that doesn't have that rich burn smell when wide open. I am used to having 2 stroke guys behind me say the same thing. its not a closed loop injection with catalyst. not yet anyways.

I would maybe look into your injectors you might have a bad one. Sounds like its dumping way too much fuel in a cylinder be careful you could wash out your rings. If you figure it out be sure let us know. Good luck.

I would start simple , change the plugs then check the throttle body syc may be out and a plug may be bad

Thanks for the replies. I actually brought her back to the dealer. Let them have another go at her.

If they don't come up with anything this time, I'll try bringing her to someone local or have a go at her myself again.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks

Isn't the idle pre set from factory

yes, I'm sure, but personally had an idle problem with the butterflies hanging up on my apex. loved the throttle return delay when coming into washouts etc. waisted a bunch of time with dealer and this sight to have everyone say, "never heard of it". finally tried raised the idle higher and turned down the bypass. that was 4500 trouble free miles ago. sometimes you just have to have the balls to try an educated guess. your not always going to get anybody to agree.
the toe is factory set also. anybody check theirs? you bought it, you own it

The toe isn't set from the factory it on the set up sheet, anyways I was just asking I do know you have to step out of the bun sometimes to make things work or to fix them
