I had a 2012 Yamaha apex se last year and loved the engine but hated the rear skid with the mono shock on hardpact. So I sold it and I am seriously thinking of buying a 2014 Viper with 6500 miles on it for $5200
I think this is a good deal. What do you guys think? The guy really took care of it and keeps it either inside in his heated basement or in an enclosed trailer. Its in really good shape. The front fox floats have the extra piggy back air reservoirs and valving done by hygear. The rear front shock has dual rate sport springs and valving by hygear. The rear shock has been replaced with a QS3 shock and rear torsion springs have been replaced with a softer rate. He got all of this stuff from hygear and had all of the shocks rebuilt at hygear at the end of last season so it would be ready to go. He is also giving me the Gps Unit that he has mounted on it for trail maps.
The track is the stock 1.5 inch and it has been studded. The track looks nice with minimal wear and no pull throughs. The oil has been changed and its ready to ride NOW! It also has Dupont Hyfax on it and the the rear axle has been replaced in order to get rid of the tri hub. It also has the Excell cold air intake. He changes the chaincase oil every year and adjusts the drive chain.
I believe I should buy this right away. Any thoughts. I don't think 6500 miles is anything to worry about. Should I worry about the jackshaft bearings or anything else. What should I look at when I go to pick it up??
He is only selling this because he wants to upgrade to a Sidewinder.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Sounds like it has a lot of good stuff on it. If you want a great riding trail hot rod the can go 0-90 from corner to corner go for it.

That sled looks really clean. You should see mine might look good in pics but she is showing age alot.

So any maintenance you suggest? When are jackshaft bearings due for replacement? So is this a good deal?

As to the "good deal" part, you can check KBB or NADA for our area. If the sled was in my area, it would be worth $5,200 in trade, and would be resold for over $7,000, at least according to KBB. I bought a used 2014 XTX two years ago for my grandson and it had just over 5,000 miles on it. Today it has almost 9,000 miles and the motor is as strong, or stronger, than my 2016 with half the mileage. We basically rebuilt the skid with new rails and bearings at about 8,500 miles, probably the result of some hard miles and lack of preventative maintenance. If those are the original Tuner skis, get yourself some decent skis and you will love that sled.

I ran every single bearing to over 8000mi and they were still good when I replaced them. It all depends on yearly maintenance. Read the FAQ. Ask the owner. Inspect at least a wheel bearing for fresh grease. That sled sure looks great from the pics. If you can afford it and YOU think its worth it then buy it and dont tell anyone what you paid. It nobodies business but your own. If happy thats all that matters. Good luck!
