I know most of the ins and outs...I've done it a few times...but...

I'm looking at a sled from Ohio where they do not title sleds...has anyone imported a sled into Canada without a title/ownership?

Thanks!

Bill of sale faxed to us customs 72 hours in advance showing vin is fine.

thanks Turk!

I usually skip the us customs...I've never stopped there. Do they validate the bill of sale or will our customs just take the bill of sale in leiu of a title? I'm trying to go Friday lol...72 hours will be a pain lol

Have you done this many times without a title? I'm kinda nervous about getting stuck there lol.

I imported 5 news sleds from a dealer in conneticut(spelling?). Go to www.RIV.com has all the info..

need a recall letter(dealer does this) and all bill of sale etc... sent to border 72 hrs.. and they will wait the 72!!!!... they give you all the import papers, you pay federal tax at border and provincial at reggy time.... Border will give you the paperwork needed to bring to crappy tire(any store that does vehicle inspection) they fill out and you need this paperwork to register!!!! they are picky... but its relatively easy.. just a few steps are a Pain...

Hope this helps!

But, I believe when you go to pay the PST after the Inspection at Canadian Tire, you will need a Title or Certificate of Origin.

importing sled

Ypu dont have to send copy of ownership to US border 72 hrs before you cross. Snowmobiles arent on tires. It for vehicles rolling on rubber only. Go to US border partrol web site. Details are there. This is done to check if unit is stolen,or bank lien against it. Becareful some US Border crossing (Cornwall) will not accepet a photo copy, original only. An ATV for example you are uppose to fax copy of Title or certificate of origin. Nothing to do with Canada Customs. They dont care. Did an ATV as well didnt stop. The only time you would have a problem if you didnt report it was if you were to exporting ATV back to the USA for some reason. PAy your GST at Border on bill of sale. Get seller to give you a second bill of sale for a lower value. Canada customs will give you a copy of "Form 1 " They forward a copy to RIV Canada. Take a few days for themt o get it. Go on line register payment. Visa Etc. They Email you next day with a form. Take this form to Canadian tire (or other registed inspection dealer)
they give yo a form, take to MTO. Pay your PST and they give you new ownership
piece of cake. Did a sled and and ATV, Cheap in the US compared to Canada
Good luck

I helped a bud bring over a polaris last week. He needed the 72 hour thingee & us customs made him store the sled in the us until 72 hours had expired.
