when we picked dads up the border guard dident even want to see the sled. just the bill of sale. the guard just looked out the window to see that there was a sled in the back of the truck and thats all that was needed. no hassel with the paperwork. in and out in under 15 minutes.
I was suggesting that you buy in US and use it in Canada just as we from the US do. Never import it, just run on a nonresident trail pass. You may need a US citizen to take it over, but I have never had my enclosed trailer opened at the border.

Not worth the risk believe me you get caught nd for the next 5 years you, your vehicle and passengers are searched everytime your name comes up at border.

What if a US citizen owned it and brought it up here and sold it to a Canadian citizen and went home? What would be the process then.
I have studied this to death. Savings bringing a new RTX back from the US was about $2,200 after all was said and done. Problem is the US dealer in Grand Forks told me that as of July they can not sell to Canadians. Said get a Grand Forks PO Box. Problem the $2,200 saving assumes I get the ND tax back. You can only get it back if your Canadian. Won't happen if you buy it with a ND PO box. If you can't get the tax back the saving is only $1456. Not sure if it's worth it considering the warrantee issues.
Used sleds is another story.
Used sleds is another story.
The dealer in the States closest to me said it was no problem to sell to Canadians, My uncle was going to but a Venture All Purpose but they are not available in the states...I know a lot of the prices in the states have when up such as Yamalube and spark plugs, the US dealer is pissed it's out of his hands...Not sure why other dealers won't sell to Canadians money is money we are all out to get a good deal..........

Watch and see Yamaha USA increasing their prices to match Canadian prices instead of decreasing the Canadian prices.

If you bought it from a Yank riding uo here you would have to take it to a customs office and have it entered and cleared inland before you could get an ownership for it and without an ownership you would have hassles on the trails if ever stopped. The inland customs officers are far more detailed than those at the border.

They will charge me GST look at safety issues and make sure it is not stolen is all I can see. My bill of sale is proof of ownership all they want is the gst tax which is fine with me had I bought it used in Canada I would pay no gst. Not worried and could care less of the warranty.

They will enforce taxes based on FAIR MARKET VALUE which is what they do in the Mritimes Black book value not invoice value..

That is good black book prices would be lower. One look at their book and they will jump at charging me gst on the bill of sale price.

I only paid PST on the canadian conversion of what I paid which the Canada Customs officer printed off at the border when I paid the GST. I suppose its different for the Albertants.. They don't pay as much tax as us anyways..

Jimmie D. Not sure about where you live. In Manitoba they have no fair market book on snowmobiles. If you say you bought it for a dollar they charge you tax on a dollar. They do have a book for automobiles but not snowmobiles. As far as paying GST at the border I checked on that also as I brought a used Goldwing across this summer into Canada. They also have no fair market book for payment of GST. What they ask you to have is proof of payment. If the bill of sale says $5,000 they would like to see a copy of a bank draft or cheque which it was paid. Not sure what they would do if you said you paid cash. Probably nothing.
