My Apex is idling inconsistently. When I do a cold start it goes through its warm up idle then drops down to its correct idle speed. After roughly 5-10 miles of riding it will slowly increase its idling speed when I get off the throttle. So if I make a stop at street after a few miles it will at 1500rpms a couple miles later then about 1900rpms a few miles later 2500rpms then after a while it will want to stay about 3500-3800 rpms, enough to keep the clutch engaged. If I keep riding a while it wont idle higher than that, but also wont drop back down. If I make a stop somewhere for 5 minutes or longer it will drop down in idling but then eventually increase the more I ride to 3500-3800rpms.
I've checked the throttle free play and ive looked for air leaks multiple times and have found nothing. There's no code coming up either. Things I think it might be.... bad air temperature sensor or ive read before the TPS can have problems. Any ideas before I start throwing darts at this thing to get it right?

I'm glad to hear im not the only one out there with this problem but then again sorry hear ur having the same problem too lol. I've called fands yamaha in york pa who is the go to dealer in pa and he didnt have any answers other than looking for air leaks. I rode it to a local performance dealer and he didnt have any answers either. It's frustrating that it takes a while to do it so taking it to a shop wont help unless they run it for a long time. And with no codes im lost at checking for sensors.

Keep us updated on this, I havn't heard it before but if two members are having the same issue, Id like to hear what the solution is when someone finds it... never know when mine might start to do it...

Check your air box, I bet the carb boots or some of the hoses have pulled off.

Sometimes its very hard to see if the air box boots are on the throttle bodies on the bottom.. maybe this is possible?? Also check all the hoses that go to the air box... Im just throwing out guesses here.. Hope it helps...

my '07 Apex has been doing the same thing for a while now. I put it on my nephews enclosed trailer over the weekend and he could hear (i'm 50 and half deaf) an exhaust leak. I tore it apart yesterday and saw a chunk missing out of the second from the left y-pipe flange. I just put the sled back together for now but did order the stainless y-pipe from my local dealer for 91 bucks, should be here Thursday. I am wondering if this is causing the irratic idle, I have had NO backfiring or ill running problems.
any ideas?
