Whistling noise

I had my Apex running in the garage this afternoon for about 10 minutes or so. When the sled got warmed up there was a whistling noise coming from it. Sounded like it was coming from the clutch area. After I gave it a few shots of throttle it went away but then after idling again for a few minutes it came back......any ideas. It was idling a little longer than I normally run it. The temp light was not on but the running boards were getting pretty warm.

Normal. Your belt is a little tight. On the back of the secondary there are three small bolts with washers on them. Switching to thinner washers will cause the belt to sit a little lower in the secondary and the whistle will be gone.

Ah...thanks. It is a new belt I put on when I did the clutch kit install.....breathing better now.

Are you sure it wasnt the cooling fan coming on? Eric

Sounds normal, no squeaking is perfect, but the occasional squeek is fine. Another way to see if the squeeking goes away is to wash the belt first with soapy water.

Also, in your manual it will explain the secondary washers. The ideal level of belt deflection is to have the track while set to about spec tension and on a stand, to just be able to spin when you push it with your fingers when the engine is running. Meaning that the track has power input to it, just not enough to spin the track at idle.

I know what the cooling fan sounds like. Not that. Heard that enough last season. I recently diluted the coolant and so far the fan has not come on even with the sled idling for a few minutes.

Usually takes my sled 12 minutes until the fan comes on. Thats during the summer in my shop when I start it up once a month.
