On my Raptor 700 I hooked the tach lead to the wire going in to the coil. The "low voltage" side of the coil.
Is it a MTX, or MTX-L instrument you have? Just wondering, since my MTX-L does not have tachometer functionality.

its the MTX boost gauge . I will try that tonight. I did not want to burn out a 200 gauge just to get a tach signal . thanks dimeBag

Most tachs will use the negative side of the coil, as that is the signal wire. The positive will be a constant 12v.
I'm assuming that you have the "MTX_D", dual boost/shift light? If so, you can either use a negative lead from a coil, or you can use teh trigger wire from the crank sensor. Not sure in the RX1's, but the Apex's have a 2 wire connector right next to the voltage regulator plug. It should have a black and grey connector, and you'll want to use the GREY" wire, which is the signal wire.
From there you'll just need to get the gauge set up for the correct pulses per rev, which should be 8.
Sorry I'm not as familiar with the RX1 engines, but if there is a sensor in the valve cover just behind the coils, that's for the cam, and you can use that too. You jsut have to set the gause up for the correct number of pulses per rev, so really you can use any negative trigger wire from ignition, etc.

thanks nate for the input. and yes its the MTX-D . and no the rx1 douse not use a cam sensor so I could not do that. just to let you know.. never thought to use the pulse coil. that makes the most sense . well back to work for me then . thanks again

I used an Tach Signal GMR Pickup Part No. 8918 on my 03 RX1 to get the tach signal for my prologger. It loops around one cylinders coil wire.

You can take it from injector wire also. That is the way I designed the sled starts.
