Instrument cluster swap. Odometer mileage transferred?

I'm swapping complete headlight/instrument clusters between Attaks. Does the mileage stay in the cluster or is it in the machines electrical control unit and broadcast to the new cluster? I don't care about the mileage just want less work so if it's broadcast great.

Thanks.. so if I bought say a brand new speedometer/instrument gage it would show 0 miles when install and running?

Just had to do this to mine, as i shorted the cluster somehow. My sled, which has 24,848 miles on it, now has 0.
