Well...as you know I was looking to trade my attak for a nytro xtx...good deal on a low mileage sled, at one of my favorite yami dealers....anyhow...I got approved for the loan...went to check on insurance...and was told NO....it's over 998 cc's which is their limit....I ended up shopping around, and the best I could do was nearly $300 dollars more a year than my Attak!!! My wife and I budget everything...especially in this poor economy...So I called my home owners insurance (who insures my attak) and asked why....I basically got nowhere with the underwriter...finally got the supervisor, and policy writer on the phone...I explained to her that I was going from a 150 HP sled to a 130 HP sled...didn't matter...it was 1050 cc's....and that was that....she was really nasty, rude and short with me....I asked her if she knew anything about the products she was insuring...if she had ever ridden a sled..etc....and she got snippy and hung up on me.
Normally I wouldn't even post bs like this here...but... I went to 8 different insurance companies...and either the rate went way up ($1,000 more), or they wouldn't insure anything over 998cc...it was maddening!!! I wanted to pound my head against the wall. :o|

To make a long story short...with the loan payment, and the insurance...it bascially made the sled unafforable to me :o|
The part that really gets me...is I could buy a used cat 800 crossfire (more HP than a nytro)...and the friggen insurance goes down $50 a year....WTF!!!
(and yes my home owners will insure it...but not the nytro)

Uggggggggg.....has anybody else run into this "OVER 998cc" BS
????

I havn't had the issue you have. Funny thing is I just traded my 2010 Vector GT on a 2012 Apex. My insurance actually stayed the same for full coverage because I told my insurance that I dropped down 50cc's to 998! I never mentioned a thing about horsepower. My 2010 Grizzly 550 is more to insure than the sled. That one I can't figure out but I will keep my mouth shut about it!

I have my 2013 nytro xtx insured through state farm for $227 a year with full coverage. everywhere else I checked was $1000+. I would get a quote from state farm if I were you.

I know I'm in Canada but it may be the same for you. TD insurance 150 a year for my apex. They were very nice and very accommodating. I do not have full coverage since I have an 06 but I was so happy even switched my car insurance to them and was 100/month cheaper for that too! I lost my license a few years back and any other insurance company that was an issue but they asked me about it put me on hold and came back within minutes and said ok no problem. Hope this helps you.

When I first got into the sport the insurance company that I was using didn't even offer sled insurance. I ended up fnding the cheapest quote at TD and then moved all my business there and saved even more. The thing with insurance companies is that they couldn't care less when you leave- it's all based on their own formula and if you don't fit into it bye-bye. When my son started driving State Farm quoted him $9000/yr and all the others were in the $3000-$4000 range. Do you think he will ever go to State Farm for anything now?

Try American family or State Farm . They specialize in sleds and understand how to cover them. If I recall I pay about $335 for a boosted nytro through amfam without having any of my other Insurance with them. My broker for work couldn't even beat their deal fyi

yeah i agree. I was so not impressed when i found it it is based on cc's. For 2 strokes it makes sense but on 4 strokes HP should be the factor.

I have my Apex covered with American Family. I don't remember the exact number but its between $230-$250 for the year (full coverage)

We had a couple claims the past two years...so I am sure...that effected it too. I thought about state farm, and allstate..but normally they are higher than companies like progressive...my motorcycle with full coverage is cheaper than any snowmobile policy I have had...which I think is strange considering my motorcycle is 2,053 cc ( 125 Cubic Inch..Kawi Vulcan 2000)...that kawi is a beast....my buddies harley's can't touch it...lol If the insurance company only knew...lol

Solution! Buy a Apex! :jump:

I do however run into the same problem with insurance companys. They are crooks intent on picking your pocket and denying payments if you claim something, but you have to have insurance by law! #$%&*

I had trouble with my 600 as the rate jumped hugely over a 500cc. So I explained to them that even though the sled said 600 on the shroud it was only 599cc. I had to get the woman to look up the sled on the net and prove it was 599cc. Insurance dropped way down. ;):D

Now I'm having trouble with the Apex but a lot of companys will insure the 998 because its a four stroke but good luck trying to insure a 1000cc two stroke. Very few will insure them. :die

So my Apex is now 470 bucks for everything but collision. That (collision) used to be 750 bucks when I first insured my Warrior. The insurance company I'm with now won't even offer it! :o|

Very hard to get a company that will insure both a house with a wood furnace and an Apex. The problems I went through getting coverage on my house because it had a wood furnace had me wanting to slit my wrists. But that is a whole different story. :drink:

Progressive.com

Did a quick quote at Progressive.com, full coverage on a 2012 nytro 1050cc, comes out at $334 per year. That's an average using a $500 dollar deductable. Shop around... don't give up on that new sled!! Good luck!

I would check with Liberty Mutual. For some reason they are very competitive on snowmobiles, but I took my homeowners and autos out of there due to price increases.
American Family, Met-Life and The Hartford were very expensive (in WI) compared to Liberty. Even though I don't have the home and cars with Liberty anymore, the snowmobiles did not go up with Liberty. I pay about $300 a yr. for a 2011 Vector and an 09 Apex.
