I screwed up and forgot to order a couple bulkhead bushings for my Attak and when putting them in last night realized it. I called 9 dealers and none of them had these very cheap bushings. Why would a dealer not stock something so cheap, I think you can buy every bushing in the front end for around $50, so for roughly $30 a dealer can have a WEAR ITEM on their shelf

Surely Yamaha tells their dealers what wear items they should have on hand. It gets real tiring calling for common replacement parts and getting told the same thing "3 or 4 days."

At least 1 dealer i called said he was going to research this item and see if he should start stocking the part.

I am looking at trading this year, and may start going to the northern dealers that stock parts to send my business to. If I have to wait for parts anyway, I might as well give my money to someone who is willing to stock something.

Kudos to Allen Ulmer, as he had some for me and is next daying them to me. And he isn't a yamaha dealer. The dealers should be ashamed that he was able to help me out when they couldn't.

sorry had to vent.

yammi4ever-
Where are you located in Iowa and how much snow?We are all brown 40 miles north of the border.

I'm not sure where he is, but I'm near Iowa City and at least for now, we have prime riding conditions!! I'm thinkning that it won't last the weekend though. Hope we get more in March!
I hear ya on th eparts thing also. I keep buying from Iowa City motorsports primarilly because I know them so well, but they don't stock much. I guess thats what you get for the areas that don't usually see much snow..

Iowa City doesn't have anything other than Yamaha.

No part here also

Here in mid Michigan two local dealers. Neither one had rear suspension bushings, alum spacers, idlers wheels or snow flap. All parts had to be ordered. That is crazy! When I drove Polaris sleds they always had the parts I needed.

I am in central Iowa Garwin to be exact. I also bought from Iowa city, and while I do like them as a dealer they don't stock $hit. Earlier this year i wanted a driveshaft bearing and a chaincase bearing, both of which Yamaha has used forever without changing (to my knowledge anyway) and I could not find one at any current dealer (Webers in Waterloo had one left over and they quit selling sleds this year). I don't blame them for not keeping a lot of things on hand, especially the big ticket items, but normal wear items should be there NO EXCUSES. Bushings, bearings for everything should be in the parts bins. How many times have you found out something you need on a thursday or friday and maybe something little kept you from riding because the dealer didn't have it (usually a bearing)

Just getting tired of it. I know Rod at IC had told me many times that he doesn't make money on selling the sled, they make it after the sale. Don't get me wrong IC is a good dealer and recently took great care of me getting a bulkhead replaced very quickly. However if this hadn't been a insurance claim I would have fixed it myself anyway.

If local dealers don't want to start stocking the basics I think I will drive somewhere else where they do to spend my $10000 plus. And when I need a part I will pick up the phone and spend the extra few dollars to next day it. After all the closest dealer is 1 hour away and the one I use most of the time is 1.5 hours away. What am I gaining by supporting a local dealer?

Probably will cool down in a few days and forget all about this, who knows.

As far as snow, conditions are unreal for us. Probabaly 8 inches in every field and ditches are completely full everywhere. Melting took care of the road sides, but should have good riding throughout the weekend. Strike that if my bushings dont show tomorrow I won't be riding this weekend. Now I'm pi$$ed again. At least Ulmers bushings should get here long before we leave for Michigan Thursday.

Enough venting for now.

most dealers can have parts in 2-3 days, port yamaha usually, i had a
friend that closed his shop, i wish you could have seen the parts that
were sold 20 cents on the dollar. i know when i want a part i want right

I am in mid Michigan too and I know what you mean. 5-7 days for the dealers I use to get parts from Yamaha. Funny thing is I have a 2 Arctic Cats also and they always have the parts the next day if I order by 3:00. If I want to get Yamaha parts and need to order I use Port Yamaha they get them to me just as fast as my dealers and give me a discount ;)!

I spoke with Rod at Iowa City today, priarilly just for some feedback from Yami reps, and asked him about the upcoming reveal(s). I have been trying to get him involved in TY, but I know he's very busy. I was asking him about the show on the 12th, and we read across this thread.
Rod commented on the fact that there are just so many parts that many people can consider wear items, that it would cost a fortune to stock every little thing that anybody can complain about!!! Just about anything can be had in about 3 days, and although that may be too long for some, that is definately the exception, not the rule.
On a personal note, as a business owner myself, I understand the costs involved in operatin costs, and as much as I would love to have every widget in the world on hand, the very real fact is that it just isn't feasable, and we should all just do the best we can to support your local dealers. I would rather spend a few more hours thoroughly checking my sled before, during, and after the season and hopefully catch a few wear items before they become an emergency.
My father always told me, "failure to communicate on your part does not constitue an emergency on mine!", and I believe thats true.
Just my opinion here, but give 'em a break.

Nate,

While I do agree to a certain extent, I can come up with NO reason to not have a driveshaft bearing, or chaincase bearing that has been used in nearly every yamaha for near 10 years. Any Wear item is pretty explanatory, bushings and bearings are expected to have a limited life expectancy, I haven't gone thru the parts sheets, but I bet we now have a majority of these that have been used for the last 5 years and these are cheap. HeII The last slides I wanted i had to order.

I just want a business to take a little responsibility for seeing what should be on hand and stocking it instead of just thinking 3 or 4 days is good enough. I am more than willing to pay extra for stock parts, and expect to pay less for parts that I have to wait for.

I too am in a business that relies on repeat customers, and If I don't have what they want when they need it I lose the sale. That is what is going to happen to the dealers that continue to take this position.

my vent for the day.

Be glad you got the bushings from Allen, his will outlast yamaha bushings. I think it is time for me to go to Davenport and oeder chaincase bearings again. I have to order 10 at a time, but they are 1/3 the price of Yamaha bearings. Any one interested. Maxdlx

hell my dealer had to order hyfax and carbides, but had 3 mpi blower kits they wanted to sell. I tld thenm to get there #*$&@ together and left. lol

Did you try Ames Powersports in Ames Iowa? They usually have everything that I have needed.

The times that I have been in the Iron River, Wisconsin area, and needed parts ASAP, the local dealer there either had them or got them in the next morning.

Pat's Yamaha, in Greenland MI has always been good for me, too.

I usually don't need stuff quickly when I'm home because I don't do any sledding in Iowa. Ditches and beanfields are all we have around the Des Moines area.
