Do we know yet if the 2014 oil tank will accept the upgrade baffling and strainer kit or do you have to also purchase a 2015 tank?

I would be interested in some more info on the upgraded baffling and strainer kit.
Thanks

i had a little mishap last weekend that will involve my viper getting a new tank with a host of other parts. long story short my dealer claims with the piss poor design of the oil tanks that its a complete upgrade to the 2015 style tank vs the 14. There not saying the parts can't be mismatched.... just that your better off to update the entire piece

Oh alright I got ya, I have a 2015 but don't know if it does have the upgraded tank since it was an earlier production 2015 and still has the sight glass built in and I know the later production 2015 don't have the sight glass anymore but have a dipstick.

There's nothing wrong with the sight glass style oil tank if you mostly riding trails and keeping the sled semi level most of the time. The new tank has more benefits for the off trail guys when the sleds is tipped on it's side in the deep powder. I am guess the tanks are the same size just minus the sight glass. The new baffle and pick up screen at the bottom of the tank are most likely designed to fit into the original tank space. The new tank gets more oil but thats do to its filled to a higher level

I can't imagine Yamaha not giving the engine a sufficient amount of oil in the tank for this engine they have been running this engine for awhile now and they are a motor company first and foremost that is their bread and butter if they needed to update the tank it would be a service bulletin. They are just tweaking little things because they are bored their new sled was built by someone else with an engine they have ran for years if they don't come up with something new soon the snowmobile department will probably be getting pink slips next Xmas . LOL

After having all the parts for over a month now I finally had time today to update the 2015 XTX SE oil tank today to the dip stick style tank with baffle like used on the later production 2015's.
I took my time and it took about 2 hours complete.

The parts that are need are :
8 KG-F2944-00 BAFFLE PLATE
8JP-F4167-10 STRAINER
8KG-E5360-00 DIP STICK
8JP-F1751-10 OIL TANK

Here are both tanks side by side, they are the same expect for the slots that hold the baffle in place and sight glass is gone.
The capacity of both tanks is actually the same however with the new style take the oil level is about 1 inch higher to get to the normal range on the dipstick, so they take a bit more oil.

Note the shorter strainer on the bottom tank thats new

Here you can see the black baffle in place on the new style tank and also the grey dip stick .

It is not a low amount of oil in the tank, it is the fact with no baffle if you roll the sled while engine is running you lose prime kinda like a vapor lock when all the oil rolls to the top of the tank. I had it happen several times last year just pop off the top return line start it up it primes and then put the hose back on.

I agree it holds lots of oil and its not a low oil issue, but you need to keep it in the bottom of the tank and that's the idea behind the baffle. Our sleds end up on there sides from time to time in the deep powder so that's why I did this.

Why is there two lines coming from the bottom of the old tank?

I also find it dumb that the straight side of the tank is facing the front. So once you are doing a tail stand all the oil will fall into that jut out in the back of the tank, away from the suction screen. I think if the tank was flipped it would work better.
