after rebuilding my from left a arm due to a little spill, this weekend i discovered that my tranfer rod is broke and the large main arm of the suspension is cracked ( the rod in front of the one where the transfer rod links into). im not overly concerned with the transfer removed, but the "arm" is cracked, and its costs $400. i have 3600 miles on my attak and at the start of this year i dumped 500 into the suspension alone between broken support brackets, broken shock adjuster strap, and a few other things. Im considering leaving as is for now and then install either ZX2 or even one of the M10 suspensions. Then theres the issue of '10's coming out in 2 weeks... im really not lookin to get rid of it as i love the sled but im tired of dumping money into the suspension and spending hours in the garage instead of riding..... any thoughts???

You sound like a heavy guy...I say opt for an aftermarket suspension. Any of them are better than the Yamaha design...and price.

AD Boivin suspensions are very durable. They make two suspensions, ZX2, which is the newer all-plastic suspension (note that plastic is flexible, therefore unlikely to crack), and the ExpertX, which is very well proven and as close to indestructible as possible.

The other main choice for an aftermarket suspension is a "Fast M10", but these suspensions are no more durable than stock and tend to rob you of speed, and I can tell by your sig that this would concern you.

But before you go off and change out your suspension, realize this; your stock suspension is made mostly of STEEL. You can get it welded and reinforced for VERY CHEAP.

Yeah speed is a factor but so is durability and I've checked out the zx2 it's pretty sweet lookin I'm just wary about no grease, no slides, etc. I figure that something has to WEAR out with all that friction

The ZX2 does have slides. The design is incredible. My slides and suspension have 8,000 miles on them. There are wear marks but nothing that concerns me. The slides will be replaced soon. You want something that is worth the money, buy a ZX2!

The front pivot arm is not $400, retail is around $300 I just bought a new one last week for alot less. Talk to your dealer. I don't know about the zx2 suspension but 3 of my buddy's had expert x's and all 3 had big problems with them. Had to replace a heat exchanger because of bolts backing out. replaced 2 side swing arms, the transfer rod and parts are expensive.

Nobody else is having those problems except your 3 buddies, so something they did wrong, probably together (no doubt they were all installed by the same guy or all together, right?), led to the failures. I've got thousands of miles on one with ZERO maintenance, and it seems to be holding together perfectly. Lots of people beat the living crap out of them. If your group has 3 for 3 failures of the same type, then there is definitely a reason for that, and I'm sorry, but it is NOT the skid's fault.

My buddy had the zx-2 suspension and guess what LB? the suspension bolts kept backing out on him and then they would shear off, this happened several times. Nothing is perfect. I personally woulnd't go with the ZX2 but others have had good luck so maybe its not bad.

I have been very happy with my dragon skid in my apex..... handles the big stuff just the same as the RTX and is smoother everywhere else. I go 300lbs suited up.

I wanted to go ZX2 but got this for 500 bucks shipped with 700 miles on it.

The discussion was related to the expertx suspension, NOT zx2.
