Keep hearing mixed thoughts about RX-1

Get one! I ride an '03 RX-1 and love it! Low maintenance compared to a 2-smoke, and the power is fantastic! I wouldn't ride anything else, and I have ridden many others. If you want power, go with the 4 cylinder...if you want great gas mileage, look for a 3 cylinder. I vote for the power though! This site will guide you through what you need to know. Everyone on here is great!

So would you guys recommend this sled for a newbie in the sport?

I agree with LB they are telling you a bunch of crap to get you to buy their mistakes.

I would recommend the 05 rx-1 with the mono suspension and if your a heavy guy get the heavier spring for it.

The three cylinder sleds I have ridden with get significantly better gas mileage...but they are stock, and I am "not quite" stock. ;)! I would still choose an RX-1 since I LOVE THE POWER! I probably have a little more fun with the throttle than they do too.

Anyway, I agree with what everyone is saying...get one and enjoy!

I have three of these sleds (03 RX1's) we will still be riding these 10 years from now! Have been snowmobiling since late 60's and have owned many differnet brands, made the switch to Yamaha in 1993 (2 new phazers) and have owned nothing but Yamaha since. Even my Daughter, Son-inlaw and both grandkids have Yamahas (our handmedowns) The last two stroke I owned was my 03 Viper, awesome sled but after riding an RX1 I was hooked on 4 strokes ever since. Of the three I own only one uses oil, the one with the lowest miles on it. Uses 1 pt. in 700 miles, that is still good. My Son's sled with almost 12k does not use oil. There is the ocasional bearing in the driveline that goes bad (idler wheels, driveshaft) but no worse then any other sled out there. After all Yamaha does not make the bearing, they use the same supplier as other manufactures. That 04 you mentioned sounds like a good deal, just watch for signs of removed aftermarket modifications (turbos/nitrous) that could have put alot of abnormal wear and tear on the sled and engine. Once you ride one, you will never go back to the dark side....
