Key in first position -> nothing happens?

Hey guys,

I have a '09 RS Vector, which I bought new. It works great, so no complaints there. But there is something I haven't figured out.

If I move my key into the first position, nothing happens. Normally, at least with all my other toys and cars, the first position lights up the dash, so I can see the ignition is on and all the warning lights work etc. I looked it up in the manual, but that didn't help.
The second position starts the engine, no problem there.

Is this normal, do all Vectors do this? Am I missing something here?
For instance, if I want to check my odometer, I have to start the engine, which is strange I would say.

Only fuel injected Yamaha sleds will power up the display in the run position with the engine off. Carb'd models need to be running to power the display.

you can power up your pod without starting the engine, with the key in the off position, press the right hand warmer button down and hold it,put the key in the first position and wait 10 seconds, headlights and pod will light up,i use it all the time, have fun

I know with my 05 Vector you hold down the thumb warmer rocker in the decrease position then turn the key on. I think you wait 5-10 seconds before the lights come on.

Great, thanks guys. I will try the hand warmer button trick.
Strange though, why would they make it this way? Is it to save the battery or something?

I have a '06 Nytro, will it work like your Vector.? I never knew you could light up the pod without the engine running.
I know my Apex will, in the first position.

Thanks for the info, I learn something new here every day......LOL, and its all good !

dont need to on the phazer, turn the key and the pod lights up,not the headlight though, maybe i should try it

Dealer showed me this on my 2011 RS Venture Score 1 for dealer. But only 1

This used to work on my '06 Nytro, but doesn't seem to anymore. Also, a couple of years ago I left the key in the on position and it still killed my battery. I seem to recall the dealer telling me when I bought the sled not to shut it off with the kill switch, but instead always turn the key off.
