Can anybody tell me why the trails are all closed up in the Lanaudiere region? I am planning to head up there next weekend and the trail conditions are starting to scare me(us). I was wondering if it was too much ice or lack of snow that has them closed.

Thanks
Walman

We got a SH!T load of rain last week and shut most of our trail system down Quebec & Ontario due to run off and lack of SNOW!!! it has to SNOW soon! and long term forecast doesn't look good either...very COLD for next week and no SNOW! I'd call ahead before leaving, northern Ontario isn't too bad and some parts of Quebec farther north.

Here's a link in Northern Ontario

I just got back from a 2 day trip to St-Zenon. Trails were very good. We did 400 km of nice groomed trails. From st-zenon to saint micheal des saintes and north you will have beautiful trails. Groomers are out 24hr making good use of the snow they got on Thursday. Check the FCMQ website or just ask on specific locations!

Just got back Saturday. Rode 1300 miles (2100 kilometer) between Sunday and Friday. It was awesome up north in the mountains. Had to ride to Jolliette to get a bogie wheel. Wish we would have taken the truck. There is no snow down in the flatlands. If you are going to go make sure you stay in the north. They are doing an awesome job of keeping what little snow they have groomed perfectly!! Trails 345,318 and 63 were are routes of chioce. Anything going out of La Cabanon will be a good ride

Understand you ttw_walman, I live in Joliette and it's crazy icy here in the south since the rain at the end of january. I just take the kids for short ride with the scratchers down here and trailering to St-Zenon to ride in good conditions ....

I hope you realize how lucky you are to live in the middle of what are in my opinion, the best trails in the world. Since my first trip to Rawdon in 1995 on my new Vmax 600 I have returned to that region with my friend and our wives every year except one. We now stay at a cabin at Domaine Bazinett. I am envious of you being able to ride out of your yard into such a great variety of beautiful trails. Wide, fast field trails, lakes , rivers and twisting mountain roads, you have it all. We always head south to your neighborhood when we want to just ride our sleds fast. We have spent many times at the electric hut at jct 349 and 43 trying to warm up before getting back to Chalets des pins and now go there every year. We call it the nasty shack but we still appreciatte it being there for us to use. We went by there after our trip to Gregoires for the bogey problem, even though the trails were almost bare.
We prefer to stay in the mountains just because it makes for a cozy getaway, but we are still there to ride. We normally do the whole region by the end of our week. This year we had to go north but hopefully next year is back to normal.
I see it looks like snow in the forecast for you. Good Luck!!

Yes, I know how we are lucky :-o

Maybe we don't have the snow we usually have but the trail network is still pretty big and the groomers do miracles with what they have. I don't even think there is an other place where so many trails are groomed daily

Just hope that the trails will still keep holding for many weeks... I had actually ride each weekend since 13 december... my record late spring ride: 19 april 2008 in St-Zenon !!! yes we are lucky !!!

up date..

[well guys I did the tour de Taureau...and it was really really bad..there were big rocks in the trail..I mean just sitting there on top of the snow..and lots of brown snow...we rode on clean snow (3 inches deep on trail.) from the barrage to canada adventures....out of the hole thing...rocks on pretty much every cornner and hill..anywhere near saint michel or zennon...is all brown and soft wet snow..the snow is like ice chirstals so when the groomer goes by it does not bond together ( at night ) like when its snow...the snow is meltting everywhere from the brown snow..we stayed at Real Masse..118 dollars a night for two. tax in..with a wirlpool..my wife..left there this morning and the trail was groomed but was only ok on the way back..345 north to 350 east and then after 5 ks it was clean and a carpet..no rocks and the odd icey spot..cut accross from 350 to 318..then went left on the 318 to cabnon..the trail was like the middle of winter...flat and lots of snow on the top..there even is good snow to ride the little trails to the lakes off the 318..but when we got 20 ks from cabanon..the trails went to crape..rocks ,brown snow..lots of little bumps too..if your on a 2-smoke..then bring gas..and ride far from the towns..broke a runner in half.. left ski on one sled and two bolts on another ski runner.. and broke a snow scratcher on the other..ya ..you need those...not everywhere..but anywhere there is trafic..we were the only ones with lots of brown snow ..and white snow on our rails.. thank god they are saying we are getting a big storm..any questions pm me ..going to mont laurier during the week...dont work in the winter :-o .....Or where the snow falls deepest.... ;)!

lots of snow

so we are getting hammered..saint-donat is going to have 30+ after thursday and as you go east from there ,the snow gets deeper..by the time you get to charlevoix..they say there could be as much as 70 centemeters..I shall still write when I get back on Friday night..but its heavey snow :o| ..great for trails though.. :jump:

just one word wow

started at mont tremblant gate.it was just great..the groomer went by..and there was about 4-6 inches of new snow on it...we took the 33 to rouge-mattawin..we rode to labelle on the 63 to 323.and gased..the trail is a carpet..on the way back the trail near rouge -mattawin..got a little brown and icey...there is not much snow on the trail near there..last 3 ks near the restaurant..the 33 was a little bumpy on the way back...got picks will post tomorrow..the snow is very wet,and packs hard..we ran our scratchers when we came back..saw that the snow was so wet ,it did not fluf around like powder...come and play. LaLaLa .its the best its been all year.. :-o

Looking for an update on trail conditions in the st zenon area? Heading up thursday to Saturday. Are the trails holding up with the warmer temps. I heard of a foot of new snow there. Thanks jrock

I am looking for an update as well.. There does not seem to be too many reports of the area yet hotels are saying conditions are "very good". Would hate to go travel over 5hrs and be disappointed..
