If you get into shimming the wastegate you better get an o2 sensor and datalogging or else bad things could happen.Bob, the things we do to run with the big dogs. Lol.
Couple #'s of Boost & a little boostane never hurt anyone. Lol. Just saying, Bob....
Got real quite in here. Lol.
Well, let me get back to things...

Won't the knock detection pick it up, B4 bad things can happen? If you get into shimming the wastegate you better get an o2 sensor and datalogging or else bad things could happen.

Ahhhhhhhh no. There are certain tune companies out there that have terrible knock detection systems that dont work good at all, and there are others that turn down the sensitivity as not to see the dash flashing so much. There have been many engines go down that people don't talk about.... See where I'm going with this?
Deto sensitivity should never be turned down, and Hurricane refuses to turn it down is all I'm gong to say on this. Track noise and different vibrations anywhere can set it off like a loose heat shield or something else in the chassis. Hurricane was instrumental in getting the Det protection dialed perfectly on the 998, and many sleds vibrate the track or other things on-board, people get upset when the dash is going off all the time, but Hurricane refuses to lower the sensitivity of it as it does save engines with the slightest bit of deto, they wont risk it. Deto will also do damage over time. If you are going to live on the edge Data Logging is your friend, don't rely on the Det protections to save the engine, if you do you are at risk running bigger tunes. Seen it with other tunes brands out there. If you're going to install parts that are beyond what it was designed for you are on your own. DATA LOG!!!!! And understand the data and how it all works together!

After reading thru so much info here and elsewhere. I've come to realize that Yamaha motor division put in a very unique set of safety parameters surrounding the 998t, for protection. If I continue to read past posts here on Ty and the discoveries you guys have made, it's very impressive. As of today 01/10/24 for any one particular tuner, making adjustments to those parameters, to make the motor unstable and/or unsafe, I would be out of my mind shocked to hear this.
I could go deeper and deeper into this but I'll choose to cut it off right now.
Sideshowbob, DMC, knappattack, I understand the risks in doing so, and merely asked the question.
Just checking the temperature in the room, so to speak.
Carry on.....

I would stay away from shimming the wastegate for the most part unless you are certain you have a weak one (and then best just to replace anyway). And I would not do things depending on the knock light/protection, sure it happens but you don't want to see that light on a regular basis. And lots goes on with the tunes before the light comes on as timing retard, so you may loose performance and not even know why if you don't have data logging. By the sounds of it you would benefit from Data logging Doc, put it on your wish list.Bob, someone tried to explain to me to put washers in between the turbo housing and the wastegate and you pick up 2 lb of boost in all tunes. You know anything about that? Haha....
And the truth will set you free...lol.

I'm with ya..I'm not against. It's just running MS17 in 50° temps seems to be a safe bet. (50° joking) all things considered.I would stay away from shimming the wastegate for the most part unless you are certain you have a weak one (and then best just to replace anyway). IMHO, it's all great. But here's what I think about data logging...
1)Logger, O2 module, iPad, mount,etc..
$1100+/-
2) what good is it to know something's wrong if you can't change parameters or make adjustments.
Now let's get into the cost of that.
May as well get a header oh, adjustable wastegate for $800, yeah throw that in too. Do you guys sell the c16 in a 5 gallon container, yeah give me two. Lol.
3) then I need to try to learn more then I have on my plate, clutching, traction, dragy bs. Lol. Along with trying to do other little things.
So, MS17, clutching, traction, etc...is probably ok for now.
If I can make that work to my satisfaction and I'm happy I'll move forward. If not, work on what it takes to get it there.
I am at the end of one step, and need time to considering the next.
I sure hope that makes sense.

lol its all good. Just suggested you get data logging as it seems you want to f**k with everything and good to have to keep an eye on yourself. carry on...I'm with ya..I'm not against. It's just running MS17 in 50° temps seems to be a safe bet. (50° joking) all things considered.

That's a fact! My data log showed my sled pulling almost 5' timing on a hard full throttle launch but it never flashed the dash or recorded a ping. Lucky we have such expert tuners building protection into these sleds...I have said it before...it is crazy that we have these very high hp sleds, that were only a dream for race sleds not too long ago, that we can trail ride with MayTag like reliability. And lots goes on with the tunes before the light comes on as timing retard, so you may loose performance and not even know why if you don't have data logging.

Wow thats odd it didnt flash knock light at 5 degrees! Didnt even know it was capable of pulling that much. Pretty sure my hurricane bundles show knocklight at 2.5 or 3 degrees somewhere around there and I know for sure my TD bundle is 2.5 degrees of retard. Have you ever logged any knock counts to see what degrees it occured at?That's a fact! Back to intercoolers I have now run my MC Express intercooler and am happy to report no more than 20 degrees of increase in temps after repeated hard pulls!

Not starting another drama fight. But quit spreading false information. Data logging is 199$ on TD’s website if you already have a flasher. It hooks to my phone, I turn it on, throw it in my goggle bag, make a blast, and look at the data on my phone. Tune your sled however you’d like but saying it’s 1100$ is spreading false information. You don’t need all the other BS you keep saying. Carry on…I'm with ya..I'm not against. It's just running MS17 in 50° temps seems to be a safe bet. (50° joking) all things considered.

Sure it's a great tool. Realize & understand your position, can you realize mine? Not starting another drama fight. But quit spreading false information. Can I build my sled the way I see fit?
False information: is exactly like "tune your sled it will make it awesome" the only thing that makes it awesome is the surrounding parts & tuning.
Carry on...
