Well, it finally happenned, Yammi left me stranded on the trail. a stud ripped out of the track and pierced the rad, lost all prestone.

Has thing happenned to anyone? if so can I weld the hole on the rad or do I need to replace it?

Oh yeah, I had it too....

Lots of us have done it...

I had a good welder fix mine.. I had to pull the skid and he ended up being able to get to it,, barely.

You might have to pull the drive shaft too... thats more of a pain....

Good luck

That's the main reason I do not stud anymore. Happened to a couple of us. Once on a saddlebag trip 3 days from the truck.

Yeah I was rippin across a lake last week and a stud put hole straight through both sides of the front heat exchanger. Im gonna replace it this week if my REALLY GOOD FRIEND helps me (Wayne u reading this?) Anyone know what kind of riveter is needed to replace the rivets?? they look pretty heavy duty.

Never happenned to me before and I always stud my sleds. funny enough I have been braking some studs this year and while we were having lunch, I was saying how I will not stud my next sled and BAM !!! Now for sure I won't stud it !

FREAK accidents can happen anytime.. Ive never had it happen.. a friend of mine had it happen twice in one trip..

My track is beat, Ive had about 8 tear outs, maybe more. Now I gotta try to find a good replacement. I saw a new 1.325 lug track I might try and not stud, dont know yet. Maybe go to 1 incher and stud, I think the longer studs are a real problem w/the 1.25 track.

Holy cow, he should have played the lottery !

we took it to a shop and they welded the heat exchanger right on the sled..

Two days later it happened again

We figure he over torqued the studs and they were breaking off under high speed..

it depends on how much damage there is, and how good of a welder you are dealing with..

I think it would be no big deal..

From what I saw it sems like a small hole but when I filled some coolant it seemed to leak from elsewhere but I c`ouldn't tell where. Maybe its just run-off from the sides.

You may want to take a look at the other side of the exchanger. Just take off the panel on the bottom of the sled (the one that gives you access to oil drain bolt) and look. You'll see smooth aluminum, any hole in that and you should probably replace.

yammi left me on the trail too last week after 18 000 km,but not because of a stud but a broken driveshaft, god i hate beeing towed, last time i was towed was when i rode a doo back in 94,to make matters worse, the guy who towed me was on a doo,its all fixed now and lovin it again, good luck with youre rad
