Hey all. First off, i respect all sleds and their MFG. I run a 2005 Rev 800 Mod sled in a 440 chassis. Don't tell me about all the problems they have because i already know. I'm prety understanding, very mechanical. I know my $hit when it comes to sleds.
I look Back and i always thought Yami was the nearest threat to the 2 strokes if they ever built a chassis that was good. Well now, years later, the motors are nice, 4-stroke chassis has a better suspension then the Doo 1200. Team Blue did it, and i love it. Personally i'd ride Green if i thought it was the best thing out there, but i put my response here so please don't be a dick and slam Doo, i think Yami has it going. The idea here is not to tell me the negatives of a 2 stroke. I already have one at 6,500 miles. I know Yami does valve specs at 20K. Thats not what i'm asking.
My friend has a 2009 Nytro RTX SE and i like the sled. It's pretty close to my 800 on the lakes. But what i want to know is what are the down falls of this Nytro chassis. Whats the negatives of this motor, suspension and what not. I don't expect it to handle the twistys like the Rev. But i think the chassis's are pretty close.
Here's some answers i would like to address,
* steering. Any good skis to address the cornering isue of the Nytro?
* off trail, i have been on this chassis and it seems to plow. It might have been the powder snow, am i wrong?
* Motor pull. I felt the Nytro shut down at about 80MPH. Top end 90ish at sea-level with a 1.250 track studs and factory chassis?
* I have to build the motor, because you can. 200HP would be a number to hit on pump gas. How close can in get to that at sea-level? I figured 200+ will hang with the Doo 800 Etec XRS on the lakes. It;s not about running 5 miles and having the motor suviving, i want to beat that 2 stroke in 1 mile on pump gas.
Bottom line, i wanna get a Nytro for ditch banging, trail riding and lake running. A turbo will be in the works in a year or 2. Sick of the every 2 year rebuild on the 2 stroke. BTW, i have some info i wil share on how (Not) gernade proof those E-Tec motors are once i get a few responses here.
I really respect those of you who can tell me the negatives and what you have done to correct them.

- 2009 Yamaha Nytro RTX SE
I was on a 2007 X-RS 800 last year, and at the end of the season I bought a 2009 Nytro RTX SE after getting some seat time on my buddy's 2009 Nytro XTX last year. I found it to be an easy transition from the Rev.
I spent the summer taking the Nytro apart and building it into the right sled for me. You can check out the build here.... http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=88472
As I pulled the sled apart (it had 2000 miles on it) I found that the wear and tear was similar to what you find on a rev. The big difference is the engine won't need rebuilt every second year.
I think the bottom line is you are going to be giving up HP/weight in comparison to the new 800s however what you gain is the rock solid motor. But one call to ulmer racing to purchase his 180 HP turbo kit and the only thing you'll be giving up is some cash. (and it will run on pump gas.)
Good luck man, but I think you'll find there are lots of doo guys here now.

There are several turbo kits available with 180 hp. MCX/ Ulmer.
I just got a MCX 180 kit installed on my sled, just have'nt got enough snow to test it yet.
Its designed to produce 180 hp at any altitude.

About the steering, get a set of powder pro or Yamaha MTX skis. This will give you great floatation in powder and good bite in the corners.
Motor pull. call Ulmer racing and order a clutchkit, save your money for the turbo.

I pulled a 107 gps mph on less then stellar conditions with my XTX last season. I don't think you need to go as high as 200 hp to out gun an 800 doo. ROCKERDAN's well setup naturally aspirated Apex RTX had no problem out running the new etech 800 last season. A bit of setup and about 20ish more hp in a Nytro should take care of an etech 800 with ease.
good luck with whatever you choose...

I know the stock speedo is far from accurate, but 107-110 was easy to see on the lake and i never held it wide open for very long as every spot i tried i was getting crazy air off the small bumps in the lakes.

You can't just make a switch from Doo to Yamaha without proper approvals. There are forms to fill out and a background check that must be completed first.

don't forget about the mandatory 3month waiting period, and I.Q.test.arteeex said:You can't just make a switch from Doo to Yamaha without proper approvals. There are forms to fill out and a background check that must be completed first.

#1 reason for switching is not having to hang out on Dootalk......IMO.
Save your money for the turbo. Lots of good reliable kits out there now that will get you ahead of most.
Front end geometry was alittle sketchy at first (08) but was updated (08 kit) and corrected for 09+.
XTX's have a higher top end than the rest, stock for stock.
Any aftermarket 6+" width ski will help them out.

Wow mudweiser I remember you back about 11years ago on tn the old snowmobile world days when the mxz 700's first came out.
You can really make the nytro go with smaller mods like header pipe, filters, spark plugs, fuel controller and clutching.
If you want mor then that I would recommend going to an Ullmer turbo.
As mentioned above different skis will fix the pizza cutter skis off trail.
The 09+ nytros have a differnt geometry compared to the 08 there alot more stable on the trail.

- 2008 nytro custom! 2014 viper custom
I rode a 2007 mxzxrs 800 and jumped over to a nytro 121 and I love it!! I did do a few changes to make it what i want, and i think from how you say you ride we do most everything the same....
1, I did change skis, i like the new yamaha mt9's but slydog skis beat out the c&a's..... the harder i push them the more responsive they become
2 call ULMER RACING .... if you dont want to put a turbo on right away call him!! If i had the money and time i would just ship him my sled and let him do what ever he wanted to it! Ulmer racing is amazing!
3, if you bash the ditch alot the se is awesome, but i did send out the rear shocks to diamond head yamaha to re-valve them..... I would like to try to ramp the nytro.....
4. New track 1.75 race track, the back country is a sweet track but the snox will be closer to what you are use to on the mod
If you want i can send you a few picts of the finished product, there will be a tread soon on the build...

I've had two RTX SE's. the first one was totaled "not a wreck put a hole in the heat exchanger'. the first one was a 136 and i hated it. When i totaled it I found a deal on a used one. I left it a 121. Well I flat out love it. The one thing I did was take all the compression out of the front shocks. There is enough compression to take the pumps through the valving and the Air. I also run the front strap all the way out. I run C&A razor Skis with 9 inches of carbide. My sled corners like a dream.
Power wise My sled pulls 112 all day on the speedo. I've seen 113 but not consistently. I run Drag and fly clutching. I run a excel header into the stock muffler, K&N filters, PC111, and the Ignition module.
I don't have any real complaints other then the studder bump ride quality. I'm going to work on that this winter.

If you want to go the turbo route there are plenty to choose from depending on preference and support: Ulmer racing, MC Xpress, Boondockers, Powderlights, Impulse, Alpine ranging from 180hp and up...
Here is a list of mods that I completed on my XTX for you to reference:
Boondockers GT2860 turbo Kit; 8lbs boost 210ish hp on 93 pump gas.
Skins SuperQ exhaust
Slydog Skis and Bogies (Yamaha skis and bogies are S%*$ IMO)
Ulmer Turbo Clutching (helix, tips, springs)
Studded down the middle
Skid plate to protect the motor underneath; needed!!!!
Quite a few cosmetic changes..
Good luck, PM me if you need anything..
