2006 Yamaha Apex RTX
I am rebuilding a 2006 RTX Apex and I had to get a new limiter strap. I have been reading on the forums that most lower it by one from factory settings to eliminate darting. I have been searching for some time now and I cannot find out what the original position was.

If you know, pls post and let me know if you count the location from the top or the bottom.

Thanks!

I think most are set on the middle setting from factory.

could you please add your location as per site rules? thanks

Thanks, will do. Looking at the strap it only has 5 holes, I went down to the third hole. This is an aftermarket one from Royal Distributing. Can someone verify if there is only 5 and which one you have it in? Thxs

Hey just keep in mind that this is something you cannot have others to tell you. When you ride the sled keep in mind how it handles. Tightening that strap will allow MORE pressure on the skis. This will help steering BUT will allow it to want to follow ruts(darting). Maybe you can afford to go the opposite way once you have ridden a few times and lose some ski pressure. This would obviously decrease darting.

What I am getting at is don't just ride the sled the way someone else set it up. Set it up for YOU from your own input and results. Trust me, every time you make an improvement you will love the sled more and more. My 07 GT handles night and day from when I bought it with factory settings last year to where it is now. However, I am 6'3" and 215lbs. A lot different then a rider that is say 5'9" and 145lbs.

On the RTX you front shock air pressure will also have a lot to do with darting & cornering. A lot of guys set them to full pressure and think they are the next Tucker Hibbert. What this really does is give you a very firm ride and it will essentially force that ski into the snow. Helps cornering but makes it follow the ruts too.

Chris thanks for the info, I completely understand, just looking for the stock starting point to save some time, then I could take it from there. I am happy to hear that there is hope to get it where I want seeing I picked this one up mid year and didn't get much time wrenching on it.

Haha, sorry for the rant. I am passionate about this since the stereotype is crappy Yamaha suspension. I believe it's because guys just want to jump on and ride without setup.

I think I have had the same rant...coming from Skidoo's there is always a solution to tweak and make the best out of a stock suspension.

it is all about the set-up. I personally have not played with the settings on a mono suspension but I have set multiple pro actions, my brothers 13 rs venture gt and my 11 xtx. all where vastly improved with just the proper rider settings, never mind the benefits of new shocks/revalve/rebuild. xtx took lighter springs though before it became comfortable to ride for me.
