Well, had my 06 Apex out on the weekend an had a run against a 2010 Crossfire 800. Conditions were hardpack with a couple inched of fresh snow. First run was a rolling start. I pulled ahead and stayed there by a couple of lengths. I was actually surprised as I figured he'd pull me quite easily. 2nd run was from a dead stop and he left me in snow dust. In stock form the Apex definitely doesn't hook or transfer well out of the hole. Reminded me of my SRX. We did this a couple more times and same results each time. We traded sleds and tried as well and man, does that Crossfire grab/transfer well. I really think if I could get the Apex to bite out of the hole it would be a close race and I may be able to take him. Anyhow, all in fun just thought I would share the results.

I can easily take my neighbor's 2008 Crossfire 800. But the only racing we've done is down twisty trails in N MN. Never from a dead stop.

wasted an 08 crossfire ho from the start and rolling even he had mods. check the head to head forum, with a 144 under the apex its go time

I also beat up on a 10 Crossfire last night......with my MTX. They are a nice sled, rode it for 20 miles,....Cats 163hp must be 145 in real life.

Yeah, I heard they had 163hp so that's why I figured it wouldn't even be close especially since the Apex is more than likely heavier. I might try playing with my transfer rod a bit to see if I can get a bit more transfer. Also, he was studded a bit more aggresively than me.

Wow! This is a surprise! I owned a 09 crossfire 800r last year and just traded for a 07 Attack gt. I will say however I did not do it thinking the apex/attack would be faster! actualy, quite the contrary. That "NON HO" crossfire flat out delivered the mail. I would be very pleasantly surprised if this Attack gt went as well as that cat. Lightly modified- stage one clutch kit, y-pipe, and studs, I saw 109 MPH on radar (speedometer was 113) from that crossfire. I beat a lightly modified 06 Apex from dead stop all the way to about the mile and a half before we let off. I traded it only because I like the reports of dependability, longgevity, and ability to hold value of the yamaha's. Guess I am all growed up now. LOL!
So I ask, for those of you that beat those crossfire 800ho's, what modifications do you have that gained you the extra 15hp it would take not to mention the wieght difference? Just an honest question as I would love to do the same with my Attack gt. :flag:

Well, for myself I could only beat the Cat with a rolling start. From dead stop he would beat me but I think it was mostly due to traction. If my Apex hooked up I would have to say that it would be a very close race. My Apex has an air box lid, and 128" track with trail studs, other than that stock. I definitely don't have an extra 15hp. I will say the cat feels a lot quicker but for what ever reason, once the Apex hooks up it will pull away from the 800R. Maybe the torque of the Apex helps, don't know. I think an Apex is actually quicker than it feels. I came from an SRX and my first impression on the Apex was that my SRX was quicker but its not. Might be the linear powerband of the 4-stroke??

Wish we had more head to head racing stories I just love hearing about Yamahas kicking some A__! :yam: :rocks: :letsnow:

I have taken the Crossfire 700 (08 ) and will see what happens with the 800 (09). However, they both are not studded. A friend has an 07 F1000 worked (D&D pipe, clutched, studded) and that may give me problems. I hope to find out soon. Just ordered PCIII, Ignition Mod and Stealth Air Box mod so I hope this will help some.

How many and what length of pics are you running? Was the Crossfire loaded up with pics. My neighbor as a Crossfire 800 and he doesn't stand a chance against my sled. If he is better picked he will pull the holeshot everytime.....

I've raced 3 different F-1000's and mine will take all 3 of them for 600 feet. They all had mod's ( Boon Docker, piped, clutched, studs and the one even had a boss noss set-up he still couldn't beat my 09 XTX.

What kind of modifications? How about a 2011 apex xtx, wait till the clutching, air box mod and pc5 are go in this summer. The traction is there now more then ever

I run with two crossfires 1000 a sno pro and regular we run the lakes so our races start at 90 - 100mph and I can pull both of them, the crossfires arent known for top speeds like the CFRs

These is some confusion on Crossfire vs. CFR. The new Crossfire "R" sleds are called CFR's. In 2009 they were called Crossfire 800 and 1000 R's. 2010 is when the CFR designation took over. The "R" series or "CFR" series cats are 128" tracks and are straight line sleds that have serious top end performance. Also remember that the 800 CFR went from 145ish HP in 2009 to 163 HP in 2010. Beating up on a CFR or Crossfire R is no small accomplishment and takes ALOT of sled to get by one.

Blue by you. Agree 100%. I had a 2009 crossfire 800r and now own a 2007 ATTACK GT. I love the sled and do not miss my crossfire. I will however say that the crossfire was a rocket and would not take racing one with my Attack lightly and would be impressed if I could hang with it. Sounds like some of you guys have exceptional sleds if you are beating these crossfire r or CFR's. I hope I got a exceptional Attack Gt.

I think it was a CFR 1000 and man was that thing fast. I could not keep up for the life of me. But then again my pig is for off trail riding lol. Love yamaha
