Because their engineers are smarter than Yamaha engineers?
I lock my secondary for 2 reasons. 1-My bearing can't come out. 2-I do it with a belt adjuster.
Belt height is more important than perfect alignment, and I'll bet nobody adjusts belt height when it is .020 below perfect height.
If you want to be a tenth of a second faster, there are abut 1,000 things that are easier, like loose 2 pounds, or empty the change from your pockets

Yooper, proper belt height is also crucial. good point. I run the Maxx perf Belt deflector on my sleds, Its nice and easy to get the belt height where you want it. Listen, ill say it again, do what you like, its just another way of thinking and I have had very good luck, longer lasting belts and cooler running clutches by shimming to 15mm offset and keeping that number a constant. Im not sure how much easier this procedure can get Yooper, its very simple...BBY
By the way brian, back to the topic, I probably have the shims your looking for...BBY

The manual says ther can be 4 mm movement side to side. 4mm=160 thousanths. If perfect alignment is so importent, why can't you find the correct spacers.
This reminds me of indexing spark plugs. How many of you do that?
I think blueby made my point. Do you really think the belt is still perfectly aligned under torque?
Actually i have indexed my plugs before...
If you dont agree with matt theorys dont do it.. No one is telling you that you have too!
Its like this.. If you race car is out of alignment dont you think the extra drag from the toe being off will cause a drag?? Yes it does!! same thing goes for a belt!
MATT!! PM me and i will just have you send me the shim and ill send you a check.. THanks

Guys, I've tested this on the track and the trail... A locked secondary works better when you have your clutches aligned... It's free track HP...
