I have never had a 4 stroke before, but I'm going to try one out this year. I'm going to look an an 05 RX1 Warrior tonight. 1591 miles, original owner. It is overcharging and needs a new voltage regulator but it runs well. He also hit a tree at one time. Becaust of that the A arms in the front are new. When he hit the tree the bulkhead got bent. He says that he didn't fix that because it still ran straight and didn't effect the handling at all. He put about 200 miles on it after the accident. It has a cover and saddle bags. He said the least he would take is $2300. The voltage regulator isn't too big of a deal is it? And I figure worst case I have to put in a new bulkhead. I think they are around $500. Any opinions? It seems like a decent price to me.

Don't. The Warrior is a bit of a beast and this one sounds like it could be hiding some issues. You could remove the front lower plastic shroud and view the bulkhead directly to look for cracks. Changing the bulkhead is no small task. Go for an 06 or newer, possibly a Vector. The short tracks handle much better.

That is not a bad price tho. Great way to get into a 4stroke imo.

I would look it over close. I have used electrical parts to trouble shoot without spending alot of money if you are interested.

Also, I would never run anything less then a 136"

I have a warrior and love it... that being said, be careful. Inspect the bulkhead where the bolt for the a-arms pass through. Make sure the cast for those bolts has not broken or cracked. If it has, pass on the sled. Replacing a bulkhead is quite the job... did it once and don't really want to do it again.... Voltage regulator is no big deal...

The guy that has the sled is a friend of a friend. He said he doesn't want to sell it without fixing the electrical problem first because he doesn't want me to have any other problems with it. He is going to put in a new voltage regulator and a new battery. I'll take a closer look at the bulkhead when I go back to look again.

I have a regulator if you want it from my 03.

Also its IMPOSSIBLE for the bulk head to be crooked and be safe. The bulkhead is sand cast aluminum and if its not perfect its cracked and if its cracked your one hit away from losing a ski, its very serious.

Also to replace you darn need to strip the sled down to the bare chassis to swap it out.

That said knowing you need about 2 weeks worth of on and off work to swap the bulkhead that is low miles and you would have a blast on that sled.

I would buy it in a heartbeat at $2300 the bulkhead isn't expensive to buy but the time is a insane to change it out.

The overcharging thing seems odd, I have never heard of that.

He has owned the sled since it was new. A while back his voltage regulator died. He put in an aftermarket regulator. I'm not sure which brand. He had it in to the dealer for service and they told him it was overcharging. I think he said it was charging at 16 or 17 volts.

I went to look at the sled and it had a dead battery. We put a charger on it. At first there was no power. It would not turn over and the gauges did not get power. After testing a few spots we thought the relay was bad. We took that out and cleaned it up. There was some corrosion. Then the sled started, but stalled. We tried again and the voltage regulator fried. You could smell it. We also checked the battery and it was bad. It had cracked on the bottom.

Now I'm just waiting for him to get a new regulator and battery in it. I offered him $2000 as is, but he didn't want to sell it that way. He wants to fix it first and make sure there isn't any other problems. Like I said before, it's a friend of a friend.

I'm hoping it works out. I'll look closer at the bulk head when I go back. It's studded, has saddle bags, and a cover. They are all things I would have to get if the sled I buy doesn't have them. I ride a lot of ice where I am so I need studs.

I have been shopping around a lot and even with the problems it seems like a good price. I also think I know someone that has a bulkhead I could get really cheap.

Buy it. Sounds like a decent guy. 99% that have had 136 inch skids never go back. Some even go further to 144.
136=Better ride, more stable, more traction and actually looks better.

I just talked to the owner. He ordered the parts and they are supposed to be here by the end of the week. It sound like I'm going to end up buying it. I hope so. I'm getting sick of shopping.

Two weeks ago I was going to buy an 06 Vector. We had agreed on a price and he was going to hold it for me. I had a time set up to see it 3 days ahead of time and confirmed it the night before. I drove two hours to go get it. I was supposed to call him when I got to his town to get the directions the rest of the way to his house. I called at the pre determined time and he didn't answer. I called his home and cell numbers for a half hour. Finally I got a text message from him saying he just sold it to someone else. He wouldn't even answer the phone. I was not happy about that one.

that is a good price and the milage is juat past break in. should be a really good sled.

brother broke 1/2 his bulkhead on a 04 war a week before the march muni ty ride. said it took him less than 8 hrs to replace it and add a reinforcement.

ps. you might want to add your location as there might be a site member close who can help you out if needed.

05 Warrior has ProAction rear skid, poor performer compared to the monoshock. Sold my Warrior because of poor handling and banging rear skid compared to my Vector. Yes, it has a great engine, but you don't drive an engine on the snow, you drive the sum of its parts. For $2000 it's a bargain, but not if it's not fun to ride. The acceleration in a straght line is awesome, but in the tight and twisties it's a friggin whale. If you're coming from a 2-stroke, you are adding from 100-200 lbs extra, that's alot of extra momentum. If this is your first 4-stroke and you're on a budget and mechanically inclined( as you may need to replace one if not both bulkheads), go for it. If not, get a newer 4 stroke with a better all round suspension.

Thrasher, the mono isn't going to make it handle any better. Ride a little better but not handle better. I had em all except a Nytro. That I did not like period. If you want a great handling 4-stroke that sled belongs to Doo. All the Yamaha's are too heavy period. OK, the Phazer is a fun lightweight sled if you can live with the lack of HP.

Maybe stock but new rear suspensions, shocks, and skis and they can handle, just ask the doo's that cant lose me in the woods!

Stock they are tanks, get creative with suspensions and commit to the sled for the long haul and I would argue you can even tell its heavy compared to a two stroke on a trail.

Off trail they are heavy when stuck no doubt there, but they all are!

Get pictures of that bulkhead and post you probably get some good advice on how bad it is.
