Hey guys, long time lurker here, but have found the forum tremendously helpful when I have had problems with my Phazer (had it for 10 years now). I'm looking at buying a heavily modded 2008 turbo Nytro (3K miles) that's flashing a code 84 for TORS and it won't stay running. Couple videos of the seller trying to start it below.
I've read up on TORS and am hoping that it's an easy throttle cable adjustment or other minor electrical gremlin (i.e. common ground issues, harness corrosion, etc.), however the no-start no-idle condition is a little concerning. I guess I'm trying to figure out if this could be a major problem with the sled. I have not seen it in person yet. The seller doesn't want to deal with it and I think he'd sell the thing cheap. Thanks!

Speed sensor, TPS and throttle switch. That said, everything can be working properly and the code 84 can be active just doing it's job. Like for example a stuck throttle, or a handlebar riser with too short a cable.

Thanks 74Nitro, those are good thoughts and seem like fairly easy fixes if needed. I had noticed there's a pretty big riser on it and the seller has the handlebars cocked pretty hard while trying to start it. Short cable could be the issue. Trying to get up enough confidence to drive 4 hours to look at (buy?) this thing! Thanks!

In both my manuals (VK and MP)there is a diagram showing how to bypass/override TORS, probably in your Phazer manual too. I'm thinking if you go look at it you can do the bypass and if it works be really confident that is the issue if it clears up the running issue.

Good call! That's an easy field test to do to see if the code clears up.

Odd as it sounds, my Apex and Attak both threw TORS codes when my drive axle bearing failed and damaged the speed sensor. Might be something else to check!

viper_dave has a point. when i took out the speedo sensor on my 11, it was throwing a code that i did not pay attention to as i only ran it long enough to get it into the trailer and the garage.

The tors uses input from the speed sensor to do its job, if the sensor is damaged it will throw a tors code and might not run. Been there, done that.

Hey everyone, thanks for chiming in. I actually went and looked at the sled last weekend and couldn't convince myself to buy it even though it was a good deal. The TORS issue does seem to be just a mis-adjusted throttle cable because I could get the code to go away by wiggling the cable. Wiggling the cable also changed to idle speed, so I think it was probably an easy-ish fix. The real worry for me was that the turbo system does not appear to resemble any kit and it has a lot of homemade/jerry-rigged components, especially the electrical splices/wires. Anyway, the guy is selling it for someone else and neither he nor the owner (whom I talked to on the phone) seemed to know the full history. They seem to think it's tuned for pump gas, but weren't even sure about that. They didn't know anything about the Boondocker box at all. Anyway, just felt like it may be more trouble than it's worth.

"seem to think" tells me everything I need to know. This level of performance needs to be done by people who can think.
