Hello everybody, I am new to yamaha 4 strokes and may have the chance to pick up an 03 RX-1 with 3700 easy riding miles. I haven't had a chance to look at the sled yet, but if it looks clean and does not appear to be beat, should I buy it? Or is 3700 miles too much? Can you really pile on the miles on these 4 strokes?

:rocks:

I bought my 05 warrior with 6200 miles on it. Pilled up 600 more in a few days. never missed a beat, never used a drop off oil, and would hang right with lower milage sleds. The 03 had ring problems which cause oil usage, but get it reringed with 05 rings, and it will be good to go. I'm not sure if it is Hondo(hope my memory is right), but he put over 21000 on a vector, and never had a major failure. I'd buy it in a heart beat. Maxdlx

Had a 2003 RX-1 with 5,000 miles on it in the shop over the weekend. Besides general maintenance (jackshaft bearings, driveshaft bearings, idler bearings) it's mint and this one is not ridden softly! 3700 miles is just getting broken in for a 4-stroke!

MILES?

I have 6,000 trouble free miles on my 03 RX-1. Uses very little oil. Only maintenance has been in the rear suspension, (bushings & rebuilt center shock) jackshaft & axle brgs. go for it ;)!

That's nothing compared to what some of the other guys have put on that are on this site. Some guys put that mileage on in one or two years.

I have 12,800 miles on my 03 and uses no oil . getting a zx2 suspension for it and should be good for anouther 12,000 miles .

8500 on my 03 no issues other than regular maint, burns about a quart every 1500 miles but still runs very strong, 3700 she's just broken in go for it.

Thanks everbody for your advice but unfortunately the sled has been sold. Oh well at least I know that mileage is not a problem and I will deff. be buying a yammy in the future. :flag:

My 2003 RX-1 has 3 seasons without and 2 seasons with a turbo installed. Normal maintenance, like bearings and idler wheels, bushings changed alle around when worn out. Never used much oil even with the 2003 rings in it. With the turbo and wiseco pistons and rings I used half a quarter of oil in 1000 miles this season, lots of high speed lake running. 3700 miles, like others have already said, it's just starting to break in. These engines will outlast the chassis and suspension.

how much did they want for that sled? my buddy has the basic same thing and he told me the dealer would only give him $1,800 for a trade in!
