On a hunch, I pulled the skid out of my son's '07 yesterday and found what I was afraid of. It's pretty much trashed. Doesn't look like it's worth trying to fix it, so I'm looking for a replacement.
Anyone know of any being parted out (or have one collecting dust)? Or a M10 that I can adapt without throwing big $$ at it?
Saw a posting that someone picked up a ZX2. Has anyone tried them?
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I looked at mine for the first time this season and it was completely trashed. I told the dealer, that was not my skid because it was so bad. All of the wheels were either cut in half or gone. I was embarrassed that that was my skid because I maintain them better than that. I do not know what happened. Anyways, after looking at a $2,600.00 bill to fix, I ordered my ZX2 with a new track. I can't wait to try it out. I will let you know. Thanks, Dana.

This is one of the reasons I put the M10 in mine. Too many horror stories about the rear skid in the Phazer.

I am seeing more people talking about a trashed skid.....does anyone know what is causing it? and is the upgrade from Schmitt Bro`s a fix?
Its quite simple.Prevent bottoming and regular maintenance=Good shocks, regular cleaning and greasing of everything that moves and not running out of slider.
If I didnt do that and ruined the skid I also would not replace it with a stock skid since there is many other much better made and designed skids. With proper shocks and wheels I would however put the Phazer skid right up there with Polaris and Doo skids as far as performance though since it is a very close copy of them.

In my case, it was a previous owner that didn't take care of it and cobbled some things together on it. It had the front arm and bell crank failure that Schmitt Brothers fix prevents. He welded it back together, but can't tell if he got everything straight or not. Seems that he didn't catch the broken parts fast enough as the entire bottom is worn off of the front shock (only thing holding it on is the half of the poly bushing that is still there). Half of the lower shock mount is worn out too. The bearings are shot in every idler. Also looks like he ran it out of hyfax as I can see big chunks missing from the rails in the bend area and I think I see a crack there in both rails. At least one of the rails is bent (maybe both). After seeing all of that, I can't let my son (or anyone for that matter) go out on it. Junk time...

Don't blame you for switching, the 07' skid was pretty crappy. My 09' skid is holding up quite well, I've only had to change one upper idler bearing and the slides once in 3000 miles. I have an M10 sitting around but I've never once thought about putting it in the Phazer as I like the Phazer skid better than the old M10 (15 years old, bought it when I worked at fast). the M10 probibly rides better, maybe, but ALWAYS lacked in traction. I'm keeping the M10 around encase I find a good deal on an SRX700!

Yep, I can agree with you on the traction issue. I'm going to try a 128x1.37 F7 track and see how well that works.

Gotta take care of your skid! Amazing how fast things wear out if you don't stay on top of things!

Yeah, this one is could be used as the poster child for skid maintenance....
Never realized that one could be that worn out and still look OK. Wasn't until I pulled it out that we saw what it was really like.

Yes if ridden hard it will break. There is a update kit to fix this issue(BILLET LINK,ARM,SHAFT,WHEELS) but by now I think the 07's would be out of luck.I believe by the 09's problems with skid breaking were fixed.AS LONG AS YOU DONT BOTTOM OUT.

I called my local dealer,
according to them the only way this update covered is after a failure, and he is not sure if he could get Yamaha to cover it now.
His recomendation was to leave it alone until it breaks. He is claiming that only a small % of the sleds he sold actually had a problem.
