Again guys, a remote start unit is a passive system. When you use your key the remote start unit is not doing a thing. They all come with a toggle switch to turn it on and off. Which only means you can't remote start it. The only worry is getting it wet. Wrap it in a baggie and that will protect that. It will kill the ignition if the brake is touched. All remote starts use that. The way it works on the sled is. You remote start it, put your key, and squeeze the brake. That disables the remote start and now your using the key for ignition.

If you could post the wiring (colors and locations you tapped into) on it that would be great!

Here is a link to the remote start system sold by Hauck Power Sports. It is supposedly rugged enough for use in a sled and it has a redundant safety system against someone riding the sled while under remote start control.
There is a pin switch which is activated by the parking brake. You must have the parking brake already on before using the remote starter. Once remote started, the sled will kill if someone takes off the parking brake without first inserting and turning the key.
Even if someone tried to ride the sled under remote control with the parking brake brake left on, they still would be limited to 5000 rpm and the parking brake pads.
When the owner wants to ride the sled while it is already running under remote control, simply insert the key and turn it to run and then release the parking brake. This will release control to the sleds normal electrical system.
I have installed several Astro Start systems on cars & trucks and this system for the sled looks much simpler. Probably just one wire to the battery, one wire to power up the sleds main circuit, one wire to pick up the tach signal, one wire to the parking brake switch, and no theft system to bypass.

I am pretty much ready to pull the trigger on the system from Hauck but I would really first like to hear from someone at TY who has used this system.
If I end up installing this system I will let you guys know how it works out.
Now if it would just snow!!!!

yes the hauck system uses the parking brake, as the theft kill and the remote start release. I just use the brake light switch, just tap in to the wire. no pins.

I did not think that the brake light was activated by the emergency brake lever. That is why I thought that a pin switch would have to be installed somewhere in the parking brake linkage.
Of course you could forget about the emergency brake completely and just use the normal brake light circuit to kill the remote starter just like you would in a car.
I am sure that the thought behind the utilization of the emergency brake is the assumtion that a would be theif would have to release the emergency brake before attempting to drive away.
However I am sure that the theif would use the normal brake within a short distance as well and would be stopped before getting too far.
The advantage to not using the emergency brake is that you wouldn't have to remember to apply it when the sled is parked prior to remote starting.

If sled revs it shuts off also. I've done them also, instead of using the brake switch. Hiding a push button that goes to 12 volts when pushed. The parking brake has nothing to do with brake switch. Their just utilizing the nuetral safety switch of the unit for that. How many people even set their parking brake. All honesty you should set e-brake while using remote start. that wouldn't be good to find your sled sticking out the back of your garage

I am thinking that installing a pin switch on the parking brake linkage and wiring it to the neutral safety input of the remote is probably a good idea.
You would just have to get in the habit of setting the parking brake so that your remote start would work. It would be safer in case you left the sled pointing downhill for example, and it would be an extra anti- theft feature along with the regular brake switch cut off and the RPM cut off.

I have remote start on my ZL600, love it!!! It came as a factory option so I don't know what kind it is but I'm sure any car starter would work just fine. I think any sled I own from now on will have command start cuz it is really nice to come outside and have the sled ready to go.
