Hi Everyone,
I am in the market for a new (used) machine. I really like the RX1, mainly because I own an R1 and am happy with the motor. But the more and more that I poke around and read here I am seeing this may not be the best choice.
I am going to ungroomed trail riding. So some suspension would be nice, but the snow doesn't get very deep where I ride, nor is the terain very steep, so a mountain sled is unnecessary.
I suppose the biggest complaint I see is the weight of the RX1 for trail riding. I do want to stay 4 stroke, so I know that they are heavier to begin with.
Any reccomdations?
Thanks
Jim

If you need a sled with some suspension i would recommend the FX nytro. any of those models would be perfect. the only down side to that sled is that it is geared for more acceleration so you won't be able to lake race across a real long lake and expect to be the first across.
other wise you could try the apex rtx. that has plenty of power and has a good bump suspension. that is a sled that will get you across a lake in a short time.

from what you are saying in your post i would reccomend the 04-05 rx warior. 136" track is better off trail and with a set of mountain or powder skis it should serve you well. you can do the same with a shorty (rx1) but throttle control and body english will be more important if you want to spend more time sledding rather than digging out.

The 4" travel in front and rear suspension is awsome in the bumps!
For bumps, the nytro is your best bet. On the trails, the attak is better.

Need more info about you and the trail conditions. Ungroomed means NASTY where I live and I wouldn't own a stock RX or Apex/Attak unless it had the Pro-Active CK in it, if that were the case???
If you REALLY REALLY REALLY like the RX-1 then DO NOT buy one with either a Pro-Action or a Mono-shock - that is IF the trails get bad, like, 2 - 3' moguls or something. If not, definitely an '05 RX-1 or Warrior should do nicely within a very cheap budget.

I would lean toward the Attak - the Nytro is a great sled for aggressive trail riding, but I think the riding position would get tiresome after awhile. I have both an Apex and a Nytro, depends on your riding style, they compare kind of like a Harley and a crotch rocket. The Apex and Attak are more trail cruisers, ride like a Caddy. The Nytro rides harder but can take the bad bumps with ease, but rides kinda hard on the smoother trails or slower riding over bumps. If you like to rip on the trails, the Nytro is the best, unbelievable rough trail sled. If you go slower over the bumps, or if your ungroomed trails are usually not that bad, the Attak will ride much smoother. Either sled has an incredible engine, you would love either one. Hope I didn't confuse the bejesus out of you!
