In its competition debut, the 2006 Yamaha Apex snowmobile launched hard and fast in three different drag-racing events over the August 20-21 weekend. Running on a 500-foot grass track in the stock class, which pits two strokes against four strokes, the new Apex earned an impressive four wins with its potent Genesis 150 fuel-injected 998cc four-stroke engine.

At the Pro Snowmobile Grass Drag Racing Association season opener in Martin, Mich., Jerry Fix from Fix Powersports took wins on both Saturday and Sunday. Two states away, in Brainerd, Minn., the National Snowmobile Racing Association season opener was also in progress, and Pat Hauck from Hauck Powersports took a win on Saturday. And finally, at the South Dakota Snowmobile Drag Racing Association meeting in Yankton, SD, Allen Ulmer from Ulmer Racing also piloted his Apex to victory.

Congratulations to all these teams for giving the 2006 Yamaha Apex a winning debut!

Yes it is. However a 500 foot grass race is a lot different then a 660 plus foot lake race with ice and snow. the apex will shine on the snow against all other sled with the exception of a well setup Mach

Also, Just to put this into perspective. The difference between a 600 REV and an 800 REV in a 500 or 660 ft run is about 1 sled length. That's if all vairables are kept the same. A well setup 600 will easily beat an 800. I know, I lost to a well setup 600 at the snow drags when I was on my 800 REV, which was pretty quick.

What he said. Most people think grass drags are long resovoir runs where the big iron shines. That's not the case.

Ive seen 440 sno-x sleds beat up on 600s and 800s at the grass drags.
A friend of mine runs a '97 Polaris 440 XCR and he smokess 600s all day long and gives 800s all they cant handle.
Traction becomes a major problem for the big iron and they just dont have enough distance for them to take advantage of the power.

You guys arent kidding on the small cc vs large in short runs. Like was said a 600cc REV will give an 800 REV a hard run up to about 80 mph.. A 600cc firecat will beat em both to 80.
