When I punch the throttle on the o'l 06 Attack the RPM's go to 10,500 for a few seconds then slithers down to around 10,000!! Anybody have a clue what the problem is? I changed both the primary & secondary springs as well as I went with the copper exhaust doughnuts last spring.

Just a long shot but have you checked the plastic buttons on the secaondary clutch?

Rpm problems

The same thing happened to me when my sled had about 5k on it. After the dealer checking absolutely everything and only after the Yamaha rep assessed it . The problem was the throttle positioning sensor .They changed it and it has been fine since there's 27k on it now.

I changed both the primary & secondary springs just in case they were getting soft but I didn't look at the buttons, will have to check those, process of elimination begins, lol, Thanks!

Throttle positioning sensor you say, didn't think that could be related but I will do some research on it, thanks for the help.

Good point bonecrusher, that may be ranger1's problem.

when i was having that problem there were no codes appearing, the dealer was stumped , they made me take all my studs out, put new clutch springs, belt , donuts etc .they called in the yamaha rep "steve duffy" and he concluded that it was the T.P.S . and i have been "HAPPY ! HAPPY! HAPPY!" ever since .

Is there a way to check if the TPS is the issue?
Last season I replaced the doughnuts with the copper ones & upon inspection the pipes looked good, no cracks. Could it be by fluke one might have cracked since then, would my symptoms match that of a cracked pipe? It doesn't seem, at least to me to be any louder. Just want to cover all basis before buying parts ;)!

all i can say is check donuts and bring all clutching to stock, maybe make sure that you have the right amount of twist on the helix in the secondary . As far as testing the sensor i have no clue, i was lucky everything was on warranty at the time . for my sled i held it wide open for 2 miles and the rpm would drop to 10000 as i watch my cousin on his apex short track blow by me. that's when i knew there was a problem because long tracks are always faster .

Ok, just went out side to see if my sled would start at -32c. It started no problem but with it being so cold, I could see exhaust bellowing inside the skid, could this mean cracked pipe? If so, could this possibly be my problem? I am not sure what the symptoms are for a cracked pipe,I have heard there is a loss of power but would that cause the rpm to drop from 10,500 to 10,000 at WOT? When I changed to the copper donuts last season there were no cracks but they could have cracked since then. The sled doesn't seem any louder though....I don't think so anyway.

Did you try a different belt or check the depth in the secondary?

New clutch springs, new belt & never changed anything else in the clutching since problem began.

I wouild drop your rear bolts on the skid and check your exhaust after it leaves the headers i gurantee its cracked mine was.

Ya I think you might be right, I am going to have to wait until it warms up a bit before I drop the skid to check it. By chance did you notice if your rpm's fell off at wide open throttle like mine?
