Fusion : As someone who tossed around the idea of buying a 4 year YES extended warranty back in 2005, I was wondering the same thing.

Yeah, you never know what they consider the proverbial, "wear and tear" vs. warranty. Fortunately I have the four years on both the Vector and Apex so we'll see what happens.
Can't wait for the 26th, the weather is finally cooperating in southern WI with some cold air.

Yep, we have a storm with potential next week. Probably not enough to ride on, but maybe it will provide a base for upcoming snow.
Hunting season for bows & muzzleloaders open here until 12/23, but only until 12/13 (I think...?) up north on Tug Hill & Old Forge.

I have to say one thing, before I purchased my 2008 Vector I read ALL of the forums for over 1 year (I started planning my new sled purchase a year before I bought my sled). I became a member on TY, Arctichat, HCS, Dootalk...and the happiest, and I do mean the HAPPIEST owners ALL rode Yamahas. Yup, I was aware of the problems experienced by Apex and Vector owners, but these problems did not compare to the horror stories from Doo owners, new Cat F-chassis owners, and the poor Polaris owners who purchased anything larger than 600cc's. Yup, snowmobiles in general are HIGH maintenance vehicles and that is no excuse for some of the problems that Yammi owners are experiencing, but still I think we're rather blessed that certain sponsors can fix our suspension failures and valving issues, bushings, etc for very little $ compared to the maintenance cost of the newer 2 stroke varieties.

Well said. Myself I have had more trouble free riding than ever since I returned back from the dark side buying a 2001 SX700R, then a 2003 RX-1 which I still ride, a 2005 RX-1 which I sold, and my 2008 Apex RTX which I'm going to keep for a long time - it's bone stock.

ahhhh couldn't agree more turk. i just came into yammy late last year from ski-doo. owned 3 of them all revs, blown belts every 250-500 miles at $130 a shot!. plus as you said oil, and high test. the famous craced intake boots, 5 top ends and 1 bottom end. i ride hard but not that hard. i had finally had enough and can't wait to acutally ride to the trailer instead of getting towed to it!

Not sure about tug area but in our area, (north west adirondacks) our season is over this weekend. Which is great because our trails don't open until hunting season is over.
Don't get me wrong, I have ridden many times when we had enough snow and hunting season wasn't over yet.. just not supposed to....

shanksyamaha - Been to Star Lake many, many times. I stop at the Nice n Easy on Rt. 3 to get a Coke or something to drink on my way to Lake Placid, Cranberry, etc, etc. I went to college at Potsdam State.
I have ridden during hunting season - but only at night. I was just telling someone yesterday that in the 2002-03 season (best I've ever seen), I had 300 miles on my sled by this time of December. We had consistent snow and cold all across NYS that year, so much so that Tug Hill never really got that busy because EVERYONE had snow that year. My first ride was Dec. 2 and my last ride was sometime in late March, riding the Hill on a 50 degree day with a slushy, gritty 4 foot base! I rode 3300 miles that season and never had so much fun!

Yup. I remember that winter, Cranberry and Tupper Lake were dead all season because everyone had rideable snow. That is good because it kept the trails nice all winter. I took my first actual ride from Star Lake to Childwold (about 60 miles) on November 29th that year. The snow came early and left late.
You should get ahold of me next time you are in the area. I ride every day in the winter, even if I have to work I ride my sled to work. Im at the nice and easy getting something every day... prolly seen ya before... its a small town...

If the W bracket cracks or breaks a weld in the suspension, is this covered if under warranty? Or do they claim "wear and tear", or user abuse? Just curious what peoples experiences have been with this issue, while under warranty.
I posted some insight into this topic on the thread titled "Has anyone NOT had problem with exhaust donuts" It might interest you.

Yeah, you never know what they consider the proverbial, "wear and tear" vs. warranty.
I had a polaris snowmobile blow up one time while under warranty and polaris would not fix it because they considered pistons and rings to be the same as break pads, carbides, and slides... replaceable wear items... They covered the one new cylinder that I needed but I had to buy 2 new pistons, new rings and pay all the labor... You never know with these companies what will be considered a "wear item"

10000 hard miles miles on my 2000 polaris xc 700 one new track, one new primary clutch, one rebuilt shock, small litlle things here and their and 3 stupid water pump belts the last one causing a rebuilt of the top end.
I thinking the apex motor wont let me down but all parts like the starter and front a arm that was repalced cost me alot more than i thought!
Parts are way too expensive for this machine here in canada.
Thinking one more season with the apex then maybe a brp 1200 for next season.

Shanksyamaha - I ride in Cranberry Lake usually once per year. I have no idea how to get past Newton Falls! My buddy rode in circles around there one year, rode over a dam, came up on the back side of Newton Falls and had no idea where to go. We ended up in Degrasse, of all places! It was like a scene out of Deliverance. Anyway, I would like a tour of the area so maybe I can PM you if we are gonna be up there this winter...

I have owned quite a few yamahas in excess of two decades. from srv, vmax , phazers, exciters, sx, srx and this sled is the most ive spent on repairs. And to top it all off ive never had such cold hands. But one long pull on the river with the fun flipper to the bar and all is forgiven. LOL
