I chased a caribou for about 5 miles. Funny to watch him run with his tough all hanging out and his feet splaying out to the sides. Clumsy beast.

Ruckus I bet if someone chased you for 5 miles in snow on a sled, your toungue would be hanging out also. And I bet you woudn't be that graceful either. :exc:

True, but a caribou has built in snowshoes and can run for hours, I can't. Obviously you have never seen one because that's exactly how they run. Clumsy beasts.

Yes I have seen them run. I just wanted you to stop and think about it first before running animals with your sled. Do you know how they breathe when there runnning? Maybe try chasing "Bigfoot" for 5 miles in snow would be more fun.

ya know...maybe not chasing anything but fun with your sled might be a good idea. Sounds like a great way to get off road rigs legislated right out of the game. Many people view those kinds of activities as cruel and harassing to animals - I tend to agree. It's the kind of thing that gives all of us a bad rap...

and we are way off the topic of home spun skid plates

It just that the Caribou is considered a endangered species in North America. Maybe not where Ruckus lives. But the animal deserves a little respect that's all. I was not trying to "flame" him. I just want him to stop and think the next time, that all.

Yea, I know I got off topic but I tried to get right back on the welding topic. Sorry about that. Sorry Ruckus, if you feel offended on my reply. Now let's get back on topic and THINK SNOW!!

If anyone has pictures of skid plates they used send a pic. Are these the same as flotation plates?

Also will they help the issue of damaging the rubbers on the tie rods from snow packing them and either popping the grommets out or ripping the boot itself?

Was looking at one for $90 (flotation plate) and then shipping. Is this a fair price?

Cannondale you mentioned a ding doing a lot of damage. What got dinged and what was the damage?

I have the float plate and no I dont think it helps the ice in tierod boots.Still alot of ice in around and under the skidplate.

Damage I saw was to Yamaha177's race sled.Protecting the castings is most important.

$90 seems about right.
