I cracked 3 stock headers on my nytro. Took the third one to a professional welder and he welded it up with no issues since. How balanced are the cranks from the factory on these 998's?
There balanced fine but the harmonics on any three cylinder four-stroke beat up on clutches. Not to mention any flex, movement or vibration is tweaking that hot metal every time it flexs no matter how minute. Overtime things are going to crack when they are flexed over and over again from vibration and movement. Remember how bad the RX-1 and Apex four-cylinder headers cracked? It was actually appears to me that the 998 is doing better than those old four-cylinder's for cracking. You don't hear near the amount of complaints with the 998 in comparison, but it's inevitable that a percentage are going to break along the line.
To me its worth it, the Cat/Yamaha turbo is quite a fun machine when it works properly to ride. Fixing a pipe or header here and there is an inconvenience, but not the end of the world.
