well it finally happened to me, oil tank is ripped open but, no great story to tell. was simply doing oil change and tore/ripped the bottom of the oil tank open when loosening up the drain plug on the tank (WOW is it ever made of thin aluminum and are the mounting flanges ever flimsy) also after I removed tank I noticed all the flanges are all twisted up but, I'll give Yamaha this....it friggin light weight. anyhow just got a TS Fabrication HD aluminum oil tank (kind OFT sells....) but, purchased through REDLINE PERFORMANCE in Alberta a Canadian dealer (saved all the exchange / border BS us Canadians have to deal with getting US parts). anyhow what a sweet piece....very nice, it has been on my radar to install for a little while now but, just hadn't got around to it.
in my search for a new tank there's another company that makes them. CFM also makes HD aluminum tanks....cheaper $$$ than TS unit but, they didn't have any in stock and stated they could have one built in a couple of days and then ship it out. I will be buying one this summer for the wife's vector (cheap insurance).
one thing about the TS tank it sure is a HD piece, I didn't have a chance to weigh either but, I would guess 2-3lbs heavier and WAY stronger for sure. it is good insurance....cheaper than a blown motor.
PS......thanks to all TY members who provided valuable information in prior posts making the search for parts much easier, all information on sourcing parts was supplied by others and i was not able to find anything additional during my search.
cheers

same thing happened to me.....ripped the oil drain right out! when I took the tank off I noticed two mounting taps were broken. I brought it into my work and got it all welded up. Been 2000 miles since and everything seems good

Interesting. Your poll should also have an option of "never had any problem" Thats where I would cast my vote. 14000 k

A guy here with a 08 rtx bought the CFM tank and said after a few corners it started to push oil into the air box. They took it to the shop and it didn't do it, ride around a flat field no issue, take a few bumps and corners and oil pumped into the air box. CFM didn't want to know about it since it was over 60 days old. Baffles inside don't work right and oil gets caught up top and pushed out

Basically, I bought some pull off parts he was upgrading in late August I think and he was doing the swap that day. He then sold the stock tank thinking he had a way upgraded tank. The tank is stout, and the welding is perfect stack of dimes, someone REALLY did a nice job on the work. But its clear the baffles inside are not vacating the oil fast enough back down into the sump and soon it builds up oil on the top baffle to the point that the air going past to the air box is bringing with it oil particles rather than just vapors, slosh it around enough and it begins to pump oil into the air box. Not sure how many other people have experienced this issue since he said they admitted they have sold under 10 for the Nytro. May also be why they don't have any instock, they're working out this issue. You'd think you would just cut a stock tank open, duplicate the stock baffling, and build the HD tank with that design.

The TS Fabrications tank is the original aftermarket tank and still the best IMO. He builds each tank himself with care.
