I'm thinking of making the leap from Doo to Yammi. I had a 2011 renegade 1200, so I know 4 stroke is the way I want to go. I have been thinking that a Nytro may be in my future, there are plenty of used ones and even new ones for realy good prices (at least I think the prices are good). I'm leaning towards the XTX for the longer track cause I do like to play off trail when I can. I just don't know what type of issues, if any, the yamaha has. Any problems with engines, overheating, clutches, weak points in the chassis, hyfax wear. I have heard they dart a lot, but this is remedied with pilot skis or bergstrom triple points, or whatever. If you all could give me some info on these and help me make a decision, I'd really appreciate it, thanks in advance!

I bought a 2013 XTX 1.75 this year and I LOVE it so far. The Tuner skis and 1.75 track work great. If you want to be warm get a medium/tall windsheild and flares. I had 2005 RX1 with 10k miles and you can't beat a Yami engine! Between all of my family and friends with 4 stroke Yamahas over the past 7 years we haven't had a single engine issue. Thats a total of 11 different machines for probably over 40k miles amonst all of them. Service it, maintain it and most important RIDE IT!

What didn't you like about the 1200? 1.75 tracked XTX is your best bet if you like off trail

The weakest link on the fx nytro is the subframe, however, if you beef it up before you ride, then no worries. Also, you must love carrying around at least an extra 50lbs of ice in the tunnel...

The subframe on the newer ones hold up fine for most people. I think they did some reinforcement on it after 2008 or 2009.
Yes they do build up ice, but no way is it 50 lbs. I have thrown enough 50 lb. feed bags in my life to know there isn't 50 lbs of ice under there.

I have a 2009 xtx and so far I have changed the following on it with 4200km.
-Skis (6.9 pilots with 6 inch shaper bars in center and 4 inch woody's outside) completely took care of darting although there is some push in corners. I would go with 6.9 instead of 5.7's because of the weight on the front of the nytro
-Lower Balljoints (Right side worse than left but left still wasn't good) $97 each at dealer (before tax)
-A-arm bushings these were completely shot. I replaced with Oillite Bushings $80
-Original Slides were replaced at around 800 km put polaris wheels on it and still same set with lots of life left.
-Drive axle Bearing
-Subframe. Earlier this year I bent my subframe going approx 15 km/h (hopefully changed and reinforced with new models) I didnt replace/fix it yet just straightened it out the best I could. Hasnt affected handling although makes you extremely paranoid about it.
Am I disapointed with my Nytro? In some ways yes but most ways no. At 4200 km I dont think these parts should have to be replaced. I was extremely frusterated and honestly ready to sell it. A buddy who also has a Nytro said he was at the same point but then think about your options. If you get another sled you will be fixing other problems on them as well.
Am I in love with the motor. YES! The torque never stops impressing me on this machine. Always brings a smile to my face.
I agree with sorenson1610 and wish a 1.75 was in my wife's budget! ( it is always in mine) but she's the boss! lol
What didn't you like about the 1200? I have heard alot of positive things on this machine.
BTW this is not bashing just stating facts.

I took the the leap and never looked back, the darting issues are easily fixed with a pair of tuner skis.

Beef up sub frame and a Nytro is bullet proof. I'm on my 2nd Nytro now because I love the power, love the durability. Got a xtx the second time around for more flotation.

It just like any sled you buy ...you have to tweak alittle to get it to work the way you want...most ride them right out of box some have to tweak way to much...get it ride it and address the things that don't work for you or what you don't like...maybe nothing or may be alot

I agree with the Tuners making the Nytro handle right. My 2012 XTX is completely stock. I checked the toe out and installed the Tuners. Set-up the preload on the back for my weight and away I went.
After riding it about 300 miles I might do a little tweaking with the dials on the rear shocks, but other then that it is good to go. It is very predictable in the corners with little push depending on the conditions and tracks perfectly straight at high speeds on straight runs.
I'm not saying there isn't a better handling sled out there because I am sure there is, but considering where the Nytro was in '08 to where it is now there is no comparison. It is stable, predictable, and confident. It does take a little getting used to since it seems to have a higher center of gravity then my '05 Rage did, but if you shift your body weight a little on the corners you can go around them and keep everything flat even when pushing it is a little bit. Sure you still get a little ski lift from time to time, but it is predictable and controllable.
I don't know what the sled rode like without tuners or how it handled before the Gen II geometry or even how a shorty compares to the XTX, but I am very satisfied with my stock '12 XTX.

Toofast,
No sled is without issues, and the Nytro is a sled, BUT, most issues are annoyances, and not season ending disasters, like a blown engine, which NEVER happens. Parts wear on Yami is predictable, and nothing really fails unless you ignore basic maintenance.
My buddy's Nytro has 20,000km's on it and he does the usual bushings, exhaust donuts, suspension bearings and hyfax. I drove it last weekend and it is as tight and peppy as my 2011 and another buddy's 2012, so they work well over the long run.
I have 7000km's on my XTX this year and for the first time, it required oilite bushings, exhaust donuts and that's about it.
You'll hear alot of complaints about slider wear, and there is some truth, but I would say this....buy scratchers and be happy. They work.
So, if you are thinking of coming off a BRP 1200, which is a great sled too, (I'm not into bashing), I would make these comparisons,
- Nytro's are heavier, but bank MUCH easier than a renegade (and belive me I've driven alot of them).
- Yami clutching is superior.....period. No secondary bearing failure that costs you a jackshaft and $1400 in repairs. Clutches last longer and are more consistent.
- Seat is better on the Renegade, seating position is better on the nytro.
- The Renegade 1200's handle better on trail, but not so much off trail (see comments above on banking). Alot to do with track length.
- Nytro controls suck....(better on the 2013) Renegades controls function better and are much lighter.
- Nytro engine is a racer, BRP 1200 a sewing machine. Sorry but that's my opinion. Torque comes to mind.
- Aftermarket is better on Yami, which is either a recognition of how bad the OEM is, or that most people agree it can be made into a spectacular machine.
That's my twisted logic.....

4500 miles on my nytro... oil change, plugs, 1 exhaust donut and just changed to my third set of sliders..haven't had to change a wheel or bearing yet.Handles great with 6" slim jims... would definitely look at an XTX...my Rtx is a little rough.

50 lbs of snow/ice in the skid alone is believable on my sled. Check out the weight tests on the link below. Polaris had an additional 94 lbs of snow on it when ridden in the powder.
When I compare my Nytro in snow and ice build up in the skid to my Mountain RX1 with the Arctic Cat M8 skid there is hardly any buildup in the RX. The skid is usually clear of snow and slush. My Nytro gets so jam packed that I end up bottoming out on the trails because the tunnel gets so heavy.
The other day I was stuck with the Nytro and I could not move the rear end because it literally weighed a ton with the ice build up.
Anyway, watch the vid.
